The Spellplague. A goddess murdered, the Weave shattered and our world thrown into chaos. But what if there is far more to the story than has been told, a conspiracy?

Something distant, darker and as ancient as the concept of time. Vanished gods, lost nations and warped timelines, the truth has been cloaked in misinformation and lies far too long. It's all hidden in plain sight. Scholars missed the clues, but we didn’t.

Are you ready to uncover what really sparked a darkest hour and continues to threaten the forgotten realms?

Then Buckle up — it’s time to shine some light on a most inconvenient and twisted truth. The Spellplague was never really about magic — it was a rewriting of the realms reality.

I'm just going to say it this man is possibly the only man that can hold a candle to AJ Pickett in both consistency and quality and I mean that

It's really weird how they just jumped from 3.5th edition to 5th edition. Almost as weird as how there was never another season of Game of Thrones after the 6th one.

This was beautifully done! Our decade long FR campaign arc has extended deeply into the Epic and Mystral's rebirth, final war with Shar, Her planes bending Apotheosis to defend against both the Far Realm and a rising terror in the Dreaming Gulf in the Abyss.

This is a theory that has been true in my campaigns for many years. Seems great minds think alike. Great video, thanks for sharing.

There's been so much changed to classic locations, I guess its no wonder most every official 5e location is kept away from them.

I love this so much. This plays directly into a campaign I am currently working on. I am creating an entire Crystal Sphere with a focus on the main world (Sayazon). Specific portions of the campaign involve traveling to some of the other planets to get answers for ancient writing left behind by the Overgod that created the Sphere. In some of what I have written already (from the perspective of the Overgod), I poke fun of Mystra's limited understanding of magic (The weave being only one way to access magical energy) and how inefficient her use of the weave is. This Sphere is on the edge of the Far Realm and some of its inhabitants go on exploration missions into the Far Realm seeking answers and studying the creatures there.

Was the 'real' reason for the Spellplague to explain the difference in how magic worked between 3rd and 4th Edition?

I recall that when 3rd Edition came out, the Realms had the 'Time of Troubles' to explain the same thing, which was pretty clever at the time, in my opinion.

I remember reading the 'Advanced Dungeons and Dragons' comic back then, and the wizard Dwalimor Omen was mentally shattered for a time.
One of his key comments in his babbling was: "Look! Magic Missile isn't as effective as it once was!!" 😂

I dont know why YouTube did not notify me of this video but I am really glad I found it. I have been hoping for a Spell Plague video. Great work as always Sir, you have far and away some of the best D&D lore videos going on YouTube!! I've really enjoyed all the series so far!

As a fellow lore scholar, I would like to postulate that the forces of the far realm were a group of aboleth mages on the nearest edge of the far realm, some wizards of the coast if you will. Their meddling caused all 10th-12th level spells that would have been cast from Karsus’s folly to the spellplague to simultaneously be cast as time stop spells causing the 92 year skippage from the end of the plague to the late 1400s. In doing so, they also placed themselves into a permanent suspended animation since time passes differently in the far realm. This has led many other scholars to presume aboleth mages exist despite them not being seen in recent memory.

I imagine some younger member of Candlekeep, or a scholarly noble, giving this speech, and being laughed at, in some tavern or college, but when he/she walks home, he is followed by a shifty type with more fingers or deformities than usual...

Wotc purchased d&d, destroyed the forgotten realms lore with 4th edition, made sure it stayed dead by not addressing it in 5th edition, then discarded the confused mess to replace it with greyhawk while earning from faerun’s corpse.

Oh. The other conspiracy. Right. Good stuff.
