The best counter to that person is to highlight that 40 is still young as fuck. You can ski and snowboard into your 60s, not much you can't do at 40.

Retire by 35 is just not possible for most people. 50 is more realistic for a small % of people. Just depends on WHAT retirement is for you. Full retirement or mostly retired but work for fun a little.

Financial independence sorta happened to me all of a sudden about 5 years ago; I don’t have to work, but I still do. The difference is now I focus on the work I actually enjoy and feel is meaningful, and not really care about pleasing others out of fear, since it really doesn’t matter if I have a fluctuating unreliable income

people are overthinking the F.I.R.E. movement, at its core it's about giving you freedom and options. The happiest people I know have both.

I think the biggest question to consider with respect to FIRE is if the life you want to live and experiences you want to have require a high level of physical fitness. If your idea of living life outside of work is active to the tune of remote travel, backpacking, camping, hiking, extreme sports etc... It's more of a risk to delay those activities for later in life. It'll be easier to afford, but harder to pull off.

i'll never be able to earn enough to FIRE by 35 so it just makes more sense to save reasonably now but not grind it all away until 30

I retired at 55. The problem with most people today is they have no plan for the future whether it is money or purpose in life. Establish some work/life balance. Save something significant for the future. Learn to be happy with the money you have left and the work you are doing. 35 is totally arbitrary. It is not a game or a race. If you can become financially independent before 60 then you’ve done alright.

Less about retiring early and just getting out out of the 9-5

I partied it up in my 20s and stayed debt free, went back to college at 29, graduated at 33, married at 34, 1st kid at 35, last kid at 39, bought a home, now 42 with $1.1m saved. I would rather take my 20s off than my 50s and I'll still retire at 60 with multimillions. Thats a needle not a lot of people can't thread though.

fire is almost inpossble for most people, before 50

second i think having a enought to turn down over time and work part time, is a lot better

I felt the same way when I was younger and I wanted to enjoy the years I was in my prime. I also thought if I invested in myself and growing my business I would always have the potential to make more money later on, which turned out to be correct.

Being older and having knee problems I am happy I was able to travel the world in my early 30's. I can't image being able to do all the things I did in my 30's when most people retire in their 60's. I can't even do some of those things now that I am 40.

With that said you can still work on saving money in your retirement and enjoy life in the present. Also, not everything is magically fixed when you retire, so don't think of it as a moment when everything in your life is solved.

So basically this is like being the old guy in the club when you’re 35-40 partying with 20-24 year old kids lol 😂 idk why these guys think that retirement at 35 is so easy like anyone can do it these guys are YouTube content creators which 1% of people are successful at so of course this concept seems simple for them meanwhile us normal people have to work so we can pay bills for majority of our lives

My Dad had me a little late and he should be retired but the economy won’t let him. What would be the best route, Stock, a business or what.

I get really tired of hearing out of touch millionaires

This is why I prioritize having a job that I like and I work around that. I make less money but I’m enjoying my path to financial freedom

I think life is about moderation. Too much of anything gets stale, and that includes having no responsibilities or cares in the world. There are plenty of people who retire and get bored in a matter of months because they lack purpose. For me the goal is to live in the present as much as possible, while also acknowledging that sometimes life throws a curve ball, so plan accordingly. I'm also somebody who enjoys their job and the idea of going to work well into old age doesn't really scare me.

Destiny brought these two back to reality… if the whole world was a useless YouTuber or streamers… nailed it. Most people don’t have this luxury of choice. Nonsense

Retirement is not good for most people. You want to have something to really focus on, which again, most people don't have.

Just balance it out. Save when you start working, and enjoy life as well.
