Boudicca was a great woman who challenged Rome and nearly won. Her rebellion panicked Nero who sought to evacuate Britain.

It was the steely resolve of Suetonius Paulinus which saved the day. After the victory by the Romans, the Iceni people were ruthlessly purged and their way of life dismantled.

The Druids, (the glue which held the Iceni people together-according to Tacitus) were discouraged from carrying out their rites or mystical duties.

By choosing death on her own terms, (poison), rather than capture and death at the hands of the Roman occupiers, Boudicca became a martyr and an icon of resistance.
