The guitar run Buddy Williams used in the song was no doubt based on the guitar run from Guitarist Luther Perkins on the Johnny Cash song "Don't Make Me Go" which was released the year prior in 1957. Buddy Williams used a 1950's blonde Gibson J 200 on this recording, a guitar which Garry Coxhead a former Buddy Williams record producer said, had been brought back for him from the US by the Le Garde Twins who had previously toured with the Buddy Williams show.

Around 1961 Gibson added the Tune-O-Matic adjustable Bridge to the J 200 model and added additional bracing. This also included an adjustable "Jack Bolt" under the top plate to help prevent the top sagging around the sound hole which some early J 200's suffered. Many say these changes ruined the sound quality of the J 200, but it is still one of the best sounding acoustic guitars ever produced, the "King" of the Flat Tops as it is commonly referred to.
