Rush... so much can be said about this amazing band. One of their greatest lifelong achievements, was that they grew their fan base, the sold out arenas, they were respected and cherished by their peers, all without much radio play. Radio just continued to play "the hits" from bands throughout the years, and Rush didn't let that stop them for a single minute. They gained fans (not so much music critics, the dregs of the musical world), they toured as as the same band for over 40 years, gained a huge following from every corner of the globe, for generations of family members, all because they didn't compromise for a quick buck. They gave 110% every single show. They treated each fan as if they meant the world to them and never forgot the fans when they did become more well known. 3 of the most talented musicians to ever play an instrument, and never let it go to their heads. It's worth watching some interviews with them. It's worth watching the documentaries made about them. And it's worth listening to more of their stuff. It's not for everyone, but even if you don't become a fan, you still respect the way they master their music and treat other humans. When people ask "who is Neil Peart?", the best answer I've heard was "he is your favorite drummers favorite drummer!" Kiitos! 🤗🤘🏼

Congratulations! You just discovered the best drummer in the universe. RIP Neal.

Me and a few friends we had our own webradio station for about 12 years. And "Spirit of radio" was the opening song for my show.

The song is on one level happy and uplifting, but also has a cynical side in its observations of the how the music industry operated. And, yes, there's a little Reggae thrown in near the end. The idea behind the song's many transitions was to emulate changing a radio dial. Though the song was from 1980, the animated video was created recently to celebrate its 40th anniversary. As a result, there are many historical references about radio and the band itself. One of the featured DJs, Donna Halper, was instrumental in giving Rush its first real break in the USA. The brain in the jar you noticed was a reference to the album Hemispheres (and how our brains are divided: logic vs. creative). There is A LOT to unpack in the video.

Rush is the most technically instrumental 3 piece band ever. This song was released in 1980

Thank you so much Biss for giving Rush a chance! They are my favorite band of all time! I have been blessed to see them live probably 8 times. These were 3 hour shows, not these 90 minute sets that exist today. They would take you on a journey and leave you so happy. Really hope you enjoy young lady! Be well, be happy and be safe! God bless you and all your friends here!

The time changes and apparent style/song changes are meant to represent 'changing the dial' ( moving from one station to another) on the old analog radios.

It is 2024... FOUR years since Neil passed....I still get choked up at the end...the drum set and 'in loving memory of our anyone else?

Thanks for sharing your reaction to The Spirit of Radio!

This is a popular song that Rush released in 1980. Their first full album was released in 1974 and they continued making music as a band through 2012. They released 19 studio albums and 11 live albums, 14 of which went platinum in the US (and 17 went platinum in Canada). They had three multi-platinum albums and were nominated for seven Grammy awards.

They are phenomenal musicians.

Neil Peart in my opinion is the best in the business. I have had the privilege to see rush live six times in my life time. And I have seen and heard some Incredible drum solos in my lifetime.

You have a good eye for detail, young woman! 😀 I'd never noticed that brain in the jar myself before 😄 I assume it refers to their 'Hemispheres' album cover, just like the movers carrying those crates are connected to the one of their 'Moving Pictures' album. But there's possibly also some other symbolism behind a brain in a jar 🙂
And thank you for your good, positive vibes! 😊👍☀️

The 'BRAIN IN THE JAR' is a reference to the Rush Album 'HEMISPHERES'.

Rush put me in a trance 48 years ago and I'm still in that trance and will be for the rest of my life.

Great song!! As a proud Canadian myself, Rush is a GREAT EXPORT. Hugely popular in the 70's/80's and a little through the 90's.. The drummer Neil has passed a while ago, but the other Teo members are still living.n🇨🇦🇨🇦
