Winter is for glider prep | Great Lakes Observing System

It's that time of year. Technicians get a brand new underwater glider ready for deployment, testing the fins, propeller and more.

These underwater gliders "fly" through the water slowly to take measurements on water health and environmental conditions. This glider will hit the lake this summer to help study harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie.

Thanks to Russ, Hayden and the others at the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR) for operating the glider and to the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) for the lab space and collaboration.
