Parrying should probably be a last ditch option, it's all about predictions because the speed of weapons in this game are way too fast to react to. (Unless you're god) try dodging someone, way easier to bait and control where people move, and it's funnier.


UPDATE 2023: This info was coming from a bow main, yes dodging is good but you need to have a mix of both parrying and dodging/baiting. Watching pro players and training your reaction time are really helpful. Parrying is used to gain an advantage in a fight, usually deciding the battle. Reacting to a swing is still basically impossible, but predicting a swing isn't. You must understand the body movement of your opponents to be better at the game.

Another tip: After parrying someone, you can start spamming attacks at them and when they get out of the stun, parry again, most of them will hit you right back or attempt to parry you back

honestly, as an absolute cw tryhard, parrying after hitting is a terrible thing to do. i usually catch people like that by acting like ill hit back. its very easy to quickly lose the game like that.

as a person whos been playing cw for over 3 months, and a 2 and half year long mortem player - the best way to know how to parry is by knowing when a player will hit, when the weapon is going to strike you. Randomly swinging around parry with no way of knowing when your opponent is going to hit you is a surefire way to get killed. If you’re against a light user with shikomizue (0.55 second cooldown), try to parry them every 0.55 seconds. But parry also relies on range, DS for example. DS can hit you further away, thus allowing you to parry the user from the exact range of the weapon. You need to know whether or not the strike is actually going to hit you, if it doesn’t and you parry, you’re f****ed. Summary: just parry when theyre about to hit you bro

Forgot to mention a requirement, having good fps, if you didn't know the frames can affect a weapon's AoE (Arena of Effect) like with 60 fps you will have a circle AoE but if you have 16 you will see that your AoE is triangle and will almost never hit, same for parry, it never works if your fps sucks.

if anyone is wondering "why when I parry I still get hit" it is because of your ping if your ping is over 90 you need to parry before they swing and it's not even 100% you might get hit but parring needs a really good ping

(If you're on a PC press "Ctrl + F7" and look at the very right of the menu you'll see your ping and the higher it is the worse it is)

Not really a tip but more of advice, I've been getting into the game and loving it and wanted to share a bit of knowledge!

Each time I join a server I always like to analyze my opponents to know how they play or how they will react to certain things! Like for example: someone who parrys instantly when they enter a fight, I'll usually keep in note to not really rush at them. This one's basic but other people may be harder to read, just make with each opponent you fight (especially ones that are better than average) you memorize their playstyle to adapt and use it to your advantage to a bit of a degree! I know it may sound like a chore but it's easy once you get the hang of it! I know you can do it!

Not really a tip on how to parry but after you parry you can use equipment like a grenade, molotov or a c4 if you're around other people or to not risk focusing on the person you parried and have someone else kill you while you're distracted. Really underrated, fun and useful.

These are truly good tips, for levels 1-50(?), but as you progress levels you start noticing new patterns and strategies to parry someone, but as you stated, these parry tips might not work against really experienced people.

I mostly just leave it to intuition and estimate people's slash cooldown, and if i think they're gonna swing or not, lag really fucks everything up though, i'm usually at around 250-340 ms ping
