New addition to the lineup is the TRX4 sport, I haven’t had much experience with these trucks so I’m eager to see what it can do. This is the start of a project series adding upgrades to increase performance. Let’s hit the trail to set a baseline

Here's what I did with my TRX-4 Sport
Bowhouse skid
Traxxas wheelbase stretch rear links
SSD outer portal covers
Moved rear shocks forward and mounted them to the frame
12 tooth pinion
45 tooth spur
Overdrive front gears
Underdrive rear gears
Flipped bumper mounts and ditched the bumpers
Ditched the rock sliders
Method beadlocks in 2.2" (don't remember the brand)
Rc4wd Interco Iroks in the soft sticky compound at 5.75" tall
A ton of trimming to clear everything.
Set the preload all the way down in the rear, and just high enough in the front to keep it level and allow full travel.

Lots more coming too, need to do some electronics and who knows what else lol

Now off to watch the rest of the videos on your build.

Love the format of your videos, keep up the good work.

They're a decent truck, I bought the sport kit version and added the following: 45t 540 brushed motor (using stock pinion), 60amp esc, 16kg servo, and run it on 2S. It also has some steel white weller split rim wheels (which I've weighted). Also succumbed to adding some brass to the inner sides of the front hubs, and I went with using the stock setup / oil for the shocks. It climbs really well, very smooth too. Was a pleasure to build!

Thats how i built my sport. The only brass i have are wheel hexes. Bowhouse lcg skid and lcg battery tray are great. The stock shocks are great for the mini T spring mod for more droop. If you want to keep the stock bumpers swapping the rear and front mounts and flipping them gives better clearance. Its a great free mod.

Once the tires break in they are really good for an rtr tire. I put my scx10-II jeep Cherokee bumper on the front of my wife's TRX-4 sport to gain a little approach. The bow house RC low cg battery tray is a big help as well

Even though the upgrade is not a performance upgrade I love having the engine sound machine.

nice video bud. my trx4 sport is still my favorite after 2 years of owning it. i bought the 2 speed kit for like 80 bucks and ran a hobby wing 1080 and a dewalt motor i pulled out of my own 12volt impact gun. it was tough as nails, but recently i dropped 200 bucks on a hobbywing axe with 2100kv and i'll never go back. over the years ive removed the sliders all together and put a smaller battery box in and i float it between in the front or just over top of the transmission and ive never competed but it will go just about anywhere and ive never broken anything except for multiple bodies and 3 sets of tires.i dont do any brass at all because i like it on the light side. but the secret for me is the ever dependable 2 speed so i can bash a little too.good luck with whatever you decide to do but ive got the element the gen8 v2 a couple budget rbc crawlers so im not a fanboy but hands down just for everyday beating on it bouncing it off ledges and jumps the trx4 platform is the best ive seen or had. of course you need new electronics but thats every rtr rig.a good steering servo and decent electronics and itll last for years.im even running 7.4 volts to the same little shift servo that came with the shift kit for almost 2 years and its still hanging in there like a hair in a biscuit. but its just my opinion and no i dont compete but i use my rc's everyday. thanks for sharing brother. i look forward to seeing where you go with it

The best free mod's for the TRX-4 Sport are to raise the sliders and trim the body down accordingly. I raised mine 10mm. Also do the bumper mount flip on both bumpers and trim the wheel arches.

I got a trx4 based v3 and am buying 2 more builders kits for the negative g chassis and one to run with stock investment and so so so many options!

TRX4 is awesome.
I never bought the sport because locking and unlocking differentials and two-speed transmission lights my fire. I bought the bronco first then the Blazer, then the K10. I mostly trail my trucks and have yet to change anything on them because of breaking. I've added lights and decals only and love the way these rigs perform.
Enjoy the ride.

Sweet!!! You picked the best color brother!!! I love all my Trx4's, my sport is set up for pure rock crawling. I am with you, I have added minimal brass and have concentrated on others up grades.🤘🤘🤘

Steering servo, metal panhard mounts, bowhouse lcg battery tray, and maybe a hobbywing 1080 for more programmability

Solid truck. One of my favorite all arounders. My mods include bowhouse lowered battery tray, HW fusion for that sweet FOC, futaba 4pv and receiver, 35kg "Amazon special" servo, Jay Concepts Landmines on injora bead locks, front and rear bumper mods (YouTube it), put spacers under the Rock rails to make them flat with the belly, increased forward weight bias. Might be forgetting a thing here or there. Looking forward to your TRX sport journey.

One of the best things you can do that is free is just trim the front and rear bumpers but also the side fenders that gives you the clearance you need

Literally just bought the same color rig about an hour ago at my lhs.
I bought it for the same reason...
It's straight forward without the bells and whistles and tough as nails.
I have a defender and a scx6 if I want to be fancy. Lol

Plus the trx4 sport is backpackable. 😉

I’m glad you went with the idea of the TRX4. I bought one for my 12 yo son and it is still bone stock. He has asked for a stronger steering servo and it will be the first mod. I’ve been impressed by the stock performance like you are. I’ll be watching your series on this closely for ideas for my son’s truck. Thanks for the great vids.

Never driven a TRX4, wow. Bought the TRX4 sport kit. It has a Hobbywing Fusion, Reefs 555, put small 2000 3s battery in the tray on the nose of the chassis, brass winch mount, angled steel front bumper, brass hubs and wheel covers in the front only, stock tires, dual stage foam, removed all but the mount for the rear bumper, Radiolink RC6GS radio and R7FG receiver.

I've had mine for almost a year. Only ran during the summer, though. But I ran it hard, and other than rust on the links where I got some rock rash, and some rust on the screw heads, I'm very happy with it. Mine is bone stock, and I plan on keeping it that way. Very capable for what it is. And most importantly, very fun. I run 3s batteries in mine, but would probably go with 2s if I had to buy batteries again. Can't wait for summer when I can get back out on the trails!

Edit: I did buy the traxxas winch to mount on it. Just haven't had a chance to do so yet. That is the only upgrade I plan on doing to it.
