This video discusses the philosophy of John Locke and contextualizes him within the philosophical movement of Empiricism. Locke described humans as a Tabula Rosa, meaning that we have no knowledge of the world before experience furnishes our mind with ideas. Locke also famously divided the qualities of objects into primary and secondary qualities. Primary qualities, like shape, motion and penetrability are perceived by us and describe objects as the actually are, out side of human perception. Secondary qualities, like color, taste and smell, are qualities of our perception of objects, but do not truly describe the objects as they are, out side of human perception.
