The TWD comics did that line but better, since it was supposed to represent Rick’s view of the living and the dead. But later on, he takes what he said back when he realized that humanity isn’t all far gone. As he leads his people, he proudly proclaims “we are NOT the walking dead!”

Ricks speach is badass, talking about his grandfather, that episode really is a turning point between the 2 halfs of the show, after terminus leading to Alexandria. In the last episode Daryl says, we aint the walking dead.
