From "The Civil War" by Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy, this dramatic song brings the reality of war into strikingly personal terms as a young soldier sings of his father and his own mortality. A powerful choice for men's chorus!

Tell my father that his son
Didn't run, or surrender
That I bore his name with pride
As I tried to remember
You are judged by what you do
While passing through
As I rest 'neath fields of green
Let him lean on your shoulder
Tell him how I spent my youth
So the truth could grow older
Tell my father when you can
I was a man
Tell him we will meet again
Where the angels learn to fly
Tell him we will meet as men
For with honor did I die
Tell him how I wore the Blue
Proud and true through the fire
Tell my father so he'll know
I love him so
Tell him how I wore the blue
Proud and true like he taught Me
Tell my father not to cry
Then say goodbye

RIP Soldiers who have fallen in defense of their home and people on their own land or far off in some unfamiliar land. To soldiers young and old, living and passed on: You are the truest form of heroes.

How could you dislike something so pure and beautiful. It's sad because it's about veterans. And there's so many disrespectful people out there that treat those veterans alive/dead like trash. In reality those people whom do that are trash. Like have some respect the reason you're free and safe is because of them. So keep your disrespect somewhere else. Please and thank you!

As a guy who wants to enter the armed forces when he's an adult I felt like I should salute while this song is playing. It's so beautiful.

A bunch of a joking laughing 9th grader good ol football boys reduced to tears at the beauty of this heartfelt song. All of us, wet in the face over this. Such a beautiful tender memory

My older brother took this song to nationals with a group of 5 other guys, one of whom was named Andy. Three years later, I did the same with 5 other guys, one of whom was Andy’s brother, named Jonathan. Last week, they both passed away in a car accident, and today a group of us is singing at their funeral.

The guys in my high school choir are doing this and I cry every time they sing it. Our soloist has such a beautiful voice and this is such a sad song that I can't help it.

My choir is about to sing this and I am so thankful that I’m gonna get to play the violin part. This has been one of my favorite songs for years and being able to play it just makes me so happy :)

I’ve sung this in several men’s choirs since high school and everyone cries. So powerful - I think every men’s chorus should sing this song at some point
