7 Lessons to adapt a stoic mindset (video):

There are certain traits that are more desirable than others when it comes to how well one succeeds in the business world and this is heavily backed up by studies. So without further wasting your time with a lengthy intro, let’s get into the traits that predicts success according to psychology.

1. Conscientiousness

So the first trait is conscientiousness and it’s a pretty broad term but it’s arguably the single biggest trait that predicts success and a staggering amount of research backs this up. It can be described as the way in which people control impulses and the ability to delay gratification rather than giving in to immediate rewards that often produce undesirable long-term consequences.

2. Agreeableness

The second trait is agreeableness or in this case non-agreeableness. Being agreeable is not necessarily an undesirable trait to have as you’ll get along greater with more people, however it won’t serve you well when it comes to advancing in your career. I’m only referencing what research say about the traits predict success, and being too agreeable negatively predicts success.

3. Neuroticism (High negative emotion)

The next trait is Neuroticism, or the tendency to experience high negative emotions. People that score high on the scale of neuroticism tend to react emotionally to events or situations that would not really affect people who score low on this scale. They see ordinary situations as potentially harmful and threatening and the problem with high levels of neuroticism is that it diminishes a person’s ability to think rationally and clearly in order to make better decisions and cope with stress.

4. Openness

So Openness, or openness to experience is a trait that measures creativity, curiosity, eagerness to learn new things which obviously is a great trait to have. On the other side of the scale if you score low on openness, you’re most likely more reluctant to change, resist new ideas and are not very imaginative which isn’t a very desirable trait to have in the world of business.

5. Extraversion

The last trait in the five factor model is extraversion and scoring high on this scale strongly predicts one to become an effective leader. Dominance and sociability are the most important attributes for that, however with that being said there are many great leaders who are not naturally extroverted. And for that matter there are also extroverted leaders that are horrible because they lack in other areas.

Wow, the best thing about this is that most people can start to build a habit/routine of conscientiousness.

I love the switch... The business world is not a kind and cuddly place *switch* So you gotta be FING RUTHLESS! This is probably what holds me back a great deal.

'''Finding a balance'' is the key in agreeableness. I work in a big corporate and you often see the extremes and they are a major pain in the ass to work with and to interact with. It's not rare that you don't see those people in the company anymore.

There are countless amounts of avenues in life that one can pick to succeed in. Business may be a broad gamefield but its not the only gamefield where you can get to project your intelligence, work ethic, and overall awesomeness.

Quite true. Did some research during my studies on this. My findings were that consciousnesses was the only significant link to performance in the workplace. However, my sample was not too large. Good video as usual, keep em coming.

Here is how you are If you are conscientious:
You are not easily distracted.
You carry your plans.
You don't postpone decisions.
You don't waste time.
You don't find it difficult to get down to work.
You don't miss things up.
You finish what you start.
You put your mind in the task at hand.
You get things done quickly.
You know what you are doing, and why.

The criticism to this would be that depending on the activity you are doing, certain factors may be more or less desirable.

However, generally speaking, conscientiousness is almost always, if not always, a sign of success.

Always train your conscientiousness, but agreeableness can be very useful in medical care, although if you want to work up the ladder then you will need to be less agreeable. But extremely low agreeable people would be very bad as a nurse or a carer.

So this video only mentions a career in business and it is correct, however it is career specific to predict success. Although it is mostly the same.

Just an example of business, you won’t create a new business if you are low on openness and won’t do anything groundbreaking, but you may do something already made and do it better. High openness creates the wheel, low openness perfects it.

Which is actually what you see with business owner, more conservative types buy companies from more liberal types and make it highly profitable. Twitter is a good recent example, although musk is good at both imagining and perfecting.

Just a theory on that, is that an example of the usefulness of how a non debilitating form of Asperger’s syndrome has on the mind? Interesting to think about.

Everything you said really stuck with me. I learned about being too agreeable the hard way...Also wanted to add that some diseases like Major depressive disorder may make somebody to be more neurotic than their natural personality dictates. Great video as always 👏🏾

These traits do PREDICT, but they do not GUARANTEE success.

Another super-awesome presentation, but much has been left out. This presentation could be viewed as a road map to success, but much happens from the beginning to end.

Lmao that ending LOL. I personally recognise some of these negative traits in my personality, really need to work on reducing those traits in my personality.

To build Conscientiousness probably the best thing to do is join a group or organization with regular meetings and practices. This can be anything that you enjoy doing but the act of regular planning and execution builds Conscientiousness and doing it in a group builds it even more. If you REALLY want to build Conscientiousness, join the military.
