CALVARY's Father James (BRENDAN GLEESON) is a good priest who is faced with sinister and troubling circumstances brought about by a mysterious member of his parish. Although he continues to comfort his own fragile daughter (KELLY REILLY) and reach out to help members of his church with their various scurrilous moral - and often comic - problems, he feels sinister and troubling forces closing in, and begins to wonder if he will have the courage to face his own personal Calvary.

You have to wonder what happened to the town after Father James left it. With the only real decent person in the entire community gone, they probably drowned in a black sea of their own hatefulness.

MY RATING - 6 out of 10  - Boy that was hard work. I don't think i have ever seen a film that has more cynical look on life as Calvary. Beautifully shot and with acting of the highest order, especially from Brendan Gleeson, it is still so dark as to feel almost depressing.

I liked the movie

But by no means is it any type of comedy

As the one reviewer called it a Black comedy

A few smart ass comments here in there do not make a comedy

It's a entirely sad story
