Four Years Later, Is Ghost Recon Breakpoint FIXED?

When it first launched in October 2019, Ghost Recon Breakpoint was a new low for the franchise. On top of removing several features that fans loved, like AI teammates, it also introduced a boring open world, a useless loot system, a social hub that broke immersion, and tons of microtransactions - we could go on.

After its critical and commercial failure, the developer set about fixing the game, though overhauling is more accurate. It added several new features to make it more like Ghost Recon Wildlands, from the Ghost Experience to Conquest Mode. Even the AI teammates returned.

So is Ghost Recon Breakpoint worth playing, more than a year after support ended and almost four years since it was first released? Find out here.

Giving it my first try yesterday, I had a blast with this game. I might have had a couple glitches but they weren’t game breaking. To the firefights, sound design, the graphics, the intense enemies, and the many times I enjoyed using the ai teammates option, this was a bit more than Wildlands. I am glad that Ubisoft worked on patching it too.

This game has improved so much. I got the game when immersive mode was already there. I have never played it with gear level on. For those of you who want to play this game and want the feels of a real life combat scenario, install the Spartan mod from nexus. This will enhance your gameplay to such an extent that you will be always alert even when free roaming in the wild. No more Hollywood suppressors. You fire a suppressed rifle in a camp or a building and everyone will hear it. You go loud in the open and shots will be heard by nearby soldiers. View distances are somewhat realistic too. If you can see the enemy, then they can see you too. Turn off the detection hud and a sniper you never saw from a camp that's nowhere even close to you just blew your brains out. Enemies are bullet sponges no more and neither are you nor are your AI teammates. They go down too if you don't strategize. So all in all now just like real life JSOC teams which Ghosts are loosely based on, you carry out COIN missions in cover of night and you have to plan and strategize before every mission. Insertion points, diversions, terrain, cover, how to capture/kill targets, avoid civilian causalities and then exit strategy. The best part of all of this is that it can all go horribly wrong. That makes it so much more fun.

I think the opening launch has shattered a lot of trust with the player base Ubisoft may have had in Wildlands, but since then, somewhat like (but not exactly on par with) Battlefield 4s development cycle, the game has gotten better, much better. The Immersive Experience changes everything, and the DLCs (Red Patriot, Operation Motherland..) really are incredible, arguably more fun than the original games story. While there's work to be done, I think this can still be a great experience for players, and I have lost too many hours to count in BP now, so I can at the very least know I've got a game I enjoy time and time again. It ain't for everyone, but it is definitely for me!

As a single player gamer, the fact that you can't play the game at all if your internet bugs out is a huge step back.

I bought Breakpoint a year after release and had a great time with it. The gameplay is pretty solid. It's different than, say, GRAW was almost 20 years ago but it's a solid game nonetheless.

I played it (solo campaign only) around a year ago and I enjoyed it. I think most of the things were fixed by then. The AI teammates were almost as good as they were in Wildlands. But there is no banter between them like there is in Wildlands which I missed. But overall Breakpoint is much the same as Wildlands, except they have very different open world environments.

Definitely worth playing if on sale. Turning off the gear score mode and minimal robots is probably your best bet to enjoying the game some more

"Always online" DRM is the biggest issue of this game and is glossed over as a footnote in this video. Everything else can be overlooked like lackluster enemy AI, uncharismatic companion AI, boring locations but not this.

Played this game last year with a few of my friends 10/10 experience, had a lot of fun and experienced little to no bugs that I can remember. Really hoping they’re making another one

Put this game on extreme, take away all wolverine healing power, minimize supplies, remove all hud, crosshairs, hints to objectives, and drone use then this is one of the best games ever. It actually sucks to get shot in this game.

I was one of the rare few who loved the setting of Breakpoint. Being on the secluded island is what made it work for me and discovering all these mini-cities was just downright awesome. I liked Wildlands, but was oh so happy that it wasn't another jungle-cruise adventure. And personally the Ghosts going in to investigate the goings on of aurora seemed so much more plausible than Ghosts fighting Mexican cartels. But that's just me

Picked up breakpoint about a month ago, have put about 60 hours into it. I’ve heard it doesn’t compare wildlands (never played) but so far I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played, the AI teammates are intuitive and customizable, and I love being able to tailor your experience with the ghost mode.

I gotta say I was furious at launch and decided to give them another shot after all the work they did. It's now become one of my favorite games even years later.

I have over 160 hours on steam deck, 100hours on PS and i’m still playing almost everyday. This game is freaking amazing.

I enjoy Breakpoint’s mechanics and gameplay. Only problem I had with it tbh, was the world life was a bit dry. Immersive mode with the extra dark night option on was so satisfying to play in

The game is actually really good now. I wish it had been released in this state, because I feel like it would have done far better. The amount of customization in the settings for changing how you interact with the game world is astounding. I've never seen a game quite like it.

I played the game for the first time in 2021, over a free weekend event and I fell in love with it instantly. After 2 days I needed to buy the full game and platinumed it recently. Also got wildlands a bit later and these are two of my favorite and most played games ever. Great experience (after all of it was fixed). Great analysis as well, I had no idea how troubled the development was.

I am actually replaying the game currently. I am having fun with it. It definitely feels improved and I wish they would have kept doing updates because it really is much more enjoyable now.

We need more videos like this. So hopefully SOMEONE at ubi sees and makes the next game right at launch instead of years later lol

I bought the game a few weeks ago on sale. I never played wildlands. I'm having a blast with the game so far.
