Yowzers! Husband and I are 25% into this. We live in Colorado and an important point that I have learned THE HARD WAY. The custom building process should be considered in chunks. We are into first chunk - prep work. This was estimated to take 3-12 months before a single shovel is tossed. Budgeting, looking for a lot, drawing, revising, engineering, and then permitting. This seems like my most frustrating time, nothing is happening but everything is happening. We are considering doing a video series as well. Because we went in blind and want to be a guide to others. Lessons learned!

This is an incredibly sophisticated and detailed process. A checklist with all the steps on paper is something I would pay for!

Someone in the land buying stage, it might be a good idea to get a soil sample in the likely home build area to get an idea of how much foundation work will be needed. It can be incredibly expensive if you have to dig 3 to 5 feet snd then buy fill dirt.
