Case Bite #4: The Edentulous Patient: Evaluation & Planning for Fixed Implant Full Arch Restoration

In this episode of Case Bites, Dr. Stanislava Misci’s patient presents with a request to improve her smile and ability to eat harder foods. The clinical examination, imaging, and a health history intake indicate multiple factors, which have contributed to multiple missing teeth in the maxillae and mandible, tooth malposition, gingival margin asymmetry, excessive gum display during smile, defective crowns.

Dr. Misci presents her treatment plan to the team, an interdisciplinary group including prosthodontists, a periodontist, an orthodontist, and a cosmetic dentist. Dr. Misci proposes a staged approach, including extracting the remaining maxillary teeth, and prepping the patient for 6-8 implants in the maxillae and four implants in the mandible with a sinus lift augmentation, bone reduction, alignment of lower mandibular anterior teeth, followed by an implant-supported fixed complete prosthesis in the upper arch and implant crowns in the lower arch.
