Motor1 Executive Editor Seyth Miersma takes Ford’s brand new Expedition for a spin to see if modern tech like an Ecoboost V6 and a 10-speed transmission can do for the full-size SUV segment.
As-tested price: $82,000

Ford’s all new Expedition is and interesting mix of a vehicle type – the Super XL SUV – that’s become slightly outmoded, but with advanced features, amenities and powertrain that make it feel really contemporary.

For this week’s Why Buy? we have the 2018 Ford Expedition Max Platinum on hand, the super-sized, and extra-expensive version of the fullsize family hauler. Not only can this 4X4 pull a big boat, or seat up to eight, but the extra space at the back of vehicle means there’s extra cargo capacity, all of the time. And, in this high-specification form, the Expedition becomes really more of a near-luxury vehicle than you’d expect from Ford.

Do we have quibbles with Ford’s biggest boy? Sure. But you’re going to have to click on the video player above, and invest at least a few minutes of your time to find out what they are.

Bought one recently. One word... AWESOME. The ride is a magic carpet ride, as smooth as anything I've ever ridden in.
The brakes are really smooth.
But for excitement, it's incredible. It's incredibly quick off the trigger and 0-60 is no problem. Put on some great music and the sound system will blow your mind.
I have, so far, nothing negative to say about it. It's a beast that acts like a wildcat, is wonderfully comfortable, quiet and handles like a dream.

This is the first vehicle to make Seyth look small

You mentioned that it's more expensive than the Tahoe and Armada and Sequoia. But it can get away with it because it's essentially the only new vehicle in this company.

I love the vehicle especially it's styling and performance. One flaw: THE EXHAUST PIPE and MUFFLER. It RUINS the look of the car; makes it look CHEAP. The MUFFLER should be CONCEALED and connected to TWO EXHAUST PORTS FLUSH WITH THE REAR FASCIA.

Awesome, fantastic, etc ...but almost perfect, yes almost, I think need a diesel engine, like the new F-150, or Raptor en Europe or South America with 3.2 diesel the Ranger. This Expedition needs diesel tec, for the customers outside of USA, for the price of the fuel, not so so so cheap like in USA.

In all seriousness, they need to require a commercial liecense to drive something this big. Dangerous
