Hi, Best way I have found, if all four wheels have been off the ground is to lower the car until all four wheels touch the ground then go down another 2" inches, start the engine and let it idle for about 5mins then drop the ramp all the way down and it should sit at more or less the correct ride height, works every time on mine.😀😀

Don’t collapse the suspension. You need to drive it to get it out of jack mode and the suspension sorts itself out. No need for fiddling with compressor lines which don’t always come back together without leaks… probably best to stay away if you don’t know these cars.

hi man i replaced the front air struts on the xj8, had the same problem than u, i decided to drive the car a litlle bit and mine leveled out after the car moved just 5 feet then the compresor sprung in to life.

What about using Google as there is much info to find. This cars suspension is in service mode witch is a safety feature. The service mode is engaged when you lift the car. You get out of the service mode by driving the car for about 20-30m.

You should have disconnect the battery.
That's how my mechanic did it.

I had similar problem after front shock replacement, the ONLY thing that raised the front was as soon as I reversed it back the front raised by itself....very scarry having this car on its "bump stops" so to speak. I VERY gently brought it down off a jack then reversed out from bay than all good.
I tried all your techniques and it did not work.
All the scan tools in the world would not bring it up.
I assume this was because it was locked in jacking mode until the car moved ( I saw 2kms/hr on the scanner info)

Your not kidding your not familiar with that car, its a xj for a start, nothing to do with a x type, and nothing like it.think i would recommend the owner to take it to someone who actually nows what it is to be honest.
