‘Explosion’ sparks huge fire which rips through multiple homes & leaves child in hospital

A child and three adults have been rushed to hospital after a huge "explosion" tore through a home in Newcastle.

Aerial footage shows the entire property in Violet Close has been reduced to rubble after a devastating fire broke out at around 12.45am.

A child and three adults were taken to hospital after four ambulance crews arrived at the scene in the Benwell and Elswick area.

The cause of the blast is not yet known.

Police have urged residents to avoid Violet Close as firefighters and gas engineers tackle the "large scale incident" and work on clearing debris.

Witness reports on social media claimed there was an "explosion" in the early hours of the morning, while a nearby resident claimed their "whole house shook" amid the blast.

A large emergency service presence remains in the area with ambulances and a police cordon in place.

Road closures are in place on Buddle Road and the surrounding areas.

Locals were have been urged to keep their doors and windows closed if they see or smell smoke.

A gas explosion as I understand it. My thoughts are with the neighbours whose houses are attached to this house. Those neighbours haven't done anything - but they've been caught up in this.

Quite often caused by charging certain lithium batteries usually not suitable and/or defective for electric bikes etc.

So by the sound of it, the fire started before the explosion.

So we have to find out what caused the explosion because even if a gas line was critically damaged, surely there's not enough gas for an explosion that big.

I don't know. My physics isn't what it used to be.

I've never agreed with using gas in houses especially with boilers indoors instead of in sealed enclosures which automatically vent outside - building regulations need to be simplified for diy'ers & those fixing up old buildings - it's just not reasonable to expect a person to buy a cheap derelict home then have to pay huge waste amounts out just to meet brand new wiring standards etc.
