💲 NEED FINANCIAL ADVICE? 💲
1) Google "fee-only financial adviser" or visit www.NAPFA.org (largest association of fee-only financial advisers). NOT an affiliate link
2) The first question to ask any financial adviser is, "Are you a fiduciary to me 100% of the time". Get the answer in writing
3) Please note that some people call themselves "fee-based". This is NOT the same as fee-only. Fee-only advisers have committed to being fiduciary to you 100% of the time.
4) Personally, I would only hire an adviser who is a fiduciary to me 100% of the time. This is not a suggestion on what you should do. Just sharing my personal preference.

⚠️ Azul's "Scammer" Warning ➡ PLEASE READ! ⚠️
Be careful of scammers. In the comments section, I will NEVER ask you to contact me, offer any investment products, recommend a stock broker, or anything similar. Some scam bot commenters 'ask' for investment help, and later, other comment bots reply with "how great X idea/investment/person is" in the replies. These are scam threads. Do not fall for them.

🚨 Azul's VIDEOS ARE NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE (Disclaimer) 🚨

The decisions on how to invest, when to retire, and other financial planning topics are some of the most important financial decisions you will make in your life. I urge you to seek professional financial advice as you make this decision. Ideally, from a financial adviser, AND a CPA AND an attorney. Having the perspective of all three professions will help you make the right decision for you and your family.

This information is being presented without consideration of the investment objectives, risk tolerance, or financial circumstances of any specific investor and may NOT be suitable for all investors.

This information is NOT intended to, and should NOT, form a primary basis for any investment decision that you may make. Always consult your own legal, tax, and/or investment advisor before making any investment/tax/estate/financial planning considerations or decisions.

Spoiler Alert: There are no "get rich" programs. Rather, just basic blocking & tackling and putting in time and care. Do your homework, choose wisely and (IMHO) work with experienced professionals who are fiduciary to you 100% of the time.

I'm 59 years old and I realized 15 years ago that by the time I was 65 Social security would not be around for my Retirement. I'm prepared for not getting anything from the government. My biggest concern is that the government will come after the money that smart savers like me who invested and worked hard to protect. I'm seriously considering cashing out and seeking citizenship in a country that has their crap together before the American financial system fails completely.

Hit 220k today. Appreciate you for all the knowledge and nuggets you had thrown my way over the last months. Started with 34k in November 2024

Azul this is NOT an increase, simply put this is restoring the earned benefits this class of citizen paid for.

I was a street cop for 32 years and worked in the court system for another 8 years. I worked at some depts where I paid into the SS system and worked numerous off duty / overtime jobs that I did the same.

It restores my benefits and that of mainly cops, firefighters and teachers and other govt workers that had benefits that were stolen since Ronald Reagan stole that money..

Thank you Republicans and Democrats of both houses for righting this theft of benefits...

Why don’t they dump in Billions like they dump all over the world. Help Americans for a change.

Fortunately, I am one of those that will benefit by this. For yers my SSI benefit was cut by 2/3 because I collect a public safety pension from my career as a police officer. I'm excited to see exactly how much $$ I will now receive.

I was a fire fighter for 22 years. Before then I earned all of my SS quarters. Before this bill I would not have gotten anything for the money that I paid in for years. My wife's SS would have also been eliminated because of the off set for my pension. What most people don't understand is that while I did not have to pay into SS while I was a firefighter I did pay 7.5% of my income into my pension.

I know many firefighters who worked 2 jobs and was paying into SS on the other job.
Do you want to punish them for having a pension for one job while also paid into SS for the other?

I am effected by the WEP/GPO. I was in private industry for 20 years and paid into social security. Then taught high school in KY (which is a very low paying state for teacher salary) for 10 years. My pension from the teacher retirement is barely $1, 000 a month. I paid 14.75% per year into teacher retirement and was not given a choice. My social security was going to be cut by 2/3 before this law was repealed. For me, it's righting a wrong. Not all of us are "high pension" retirees. If they would lift the cap on social security that would fund 70-80% of this. My sister gets a county pension, social security, and all that brings her $80k a year. And her husband makes $400k profit from his business but pays the same percentage as everyone else does for social security. That's insane. We're living on not quite half of what my sister receives. This will a huge difference to our quality of life and help me pay my medical bills.

I am so grateful for this video. I am a teacher and I also have more than 40 social security credits. This is good news for me.

I have more than 120 credits for Social Security, paying in for over 38 years. However, I would have had to work full time into my 70s in order to overcome the WEP penalty. The WEP penalty was a great worry to me, and I am glad it is gone.

I have two pensions. I would much rather have had a Roth 401k throughout my working lifetime. $500/month invested from 25 - 65 at 9% is $2.3mil. I hate my job but can't leave because of I won't get my state pension. What do you think about doing a 70/30 stocks bond ratio?

Just an FYI - Not all teachers who have government pensions are impacted by this, like Florida.

Good. They paid into it and were promised it. Politicians took money out of social security and misappropriated it.

They need to have the credits (most don’t) in order to get the extra cash! I’d prefer them not taxing my SS instead!!

Terrible idea. Why would they do this when it will be cut by 33% in 9 years????

If you never filed to social security and this applies to you, you need to file.

From the comments, people think Civil Service employees have it made the state college I work for can't find workers to fill entry level, nonskilled position .because nobody wants to work, they have had like 20 position open for like a year. These are good paying, union jobs they have people come in for the interview, they accept the position, then they never hear from them again....there's to much free money out there, no need to work

Work on getting this law repealed didn’t start 10 years ago, the first Congressional hearings on it were held in 2003. One of the reasons the repeal happened is that even today there are mistakes applying the WEP / GPO, underpayment, overpayment, etc. It was pretty much a hot mess from its inception in the 1980’s. And SS running out of money is irrelevant- it is a social obligation, not some bucket of money that can be exhausted. Nothing’s happening to Social Security.

As a retired police officer of 18 years and my dad of 34 years this was a long time coming I've been working social security covered private sector for years and my dad did as well. WEP and GPO lowered my dads SS by about $500 a month! I'm 43 and it would have screwed me as well. And what was really annoying was the GPO where I wouldn't have gotten any of my wife's spousal or survivor benefits; even though if she had married a dead beat guy who never worked he would have been eligible for it all. This is a good step toward total SS reform that needs to happen that helps others out as well. Azul you not taking a stand on positions because it may be "political / or annoy people" is ridiculous. Man up and take a stand on things; if people disagree so what. That's what the comments section is for. You're too passive on things passing the buck all the time not taking a stand on issues that are important.
