Crete | Kandanos Village. Kandanos is an attractive mountain village nestling among the sharp crags of western Crete. Many Cretans take refuge there in the summer to avoid the heat in the towns, and it has built itself a reputation as a cool and leafy refuge.
The route from Chania to Kandanos is long and tortuous -- about 60 kilometres of mountain road that requires care to navigate. Alternately, from the Chania bus stations you can take a KTEL rural bus that will do the trip in something over an hour.
Either way, Kandanos gives you a condensed Cretan country experience.
