I've worked on 2 strokes for the last 3-4 years and all the chainsaws I had to dismantle had dry clutch drum bearings. As you said they do need grease. We actually had a saw come in that was completely seized, with presumably a bad motor, that just had a seized/broken drum bearing. That's all it was. Also, they do make a grease gun/tool to grease that bearing without disassembly. That's what that hole in the end of the crank is for. It feeds that bearing with grease. Thanks for sharing this for others to see and maybe, there will be less dry drum bearing out there in the field!

I melted the cage apart last summer on my ported 460 put a new bearing on and trashed it in a few cuts. The crank side of the bearing cage melted to the crank I didn’t notice it until after destroying the new one. Point is your definitely correct grease the bearing and it will last longer.

They make a pen style grease gun that pushes the end hole on the crankshaft and comes out the little hole directed into the bearing. Look up chainsaw grease gun

Ditto. There is a grease point on the crank shaft

Great video, as they all are. Both channels, keep it up.

When I clean my saw I always coat the pin bearing with white lithium grease. Seems to work well. Keeping the clean is a big part of saw maintenance. Like to see more videos like this thanks for posting so sorry about Jed

No mention of the grease hole in the end of some crank shafts or the grease gun specifically for it and the bar tip?

What if you use copper anti-seize instead of grease

Oh... that's what that cowbell noise is.

So what is the rpm of that crank? I wonder how long the grease stays put? Also temperature is a consideration?
It’s not a bad idea but better to keep an eye on the wear and replace the bearing before it becomes worn.

I can’t get my clutch drum off. I was reefing on it with some vice grips to the point the saw was bending. Any advice?
