For me, whenever there are some kind of big plans or event or travel or something like that coming up, I *insist* on asking for clarification as much as possible on what the exact schedule and such will be, so I can plan around it ahead of time, as best as I can

I have had like 5 meltdowns today. It is really hard when I get saddled with last minute plans to buy gifts for people who are elders and cannot get out and about so easily but wait until the day after I am done shopping to send me out as their personal shopper

I think it can be really easy to fit holiday things into that structure. Like for example, if a person is used to having their breakfast at a certain time, we can add a little bit of holiday Flair to that! The big things, like you say are still the same, but it's got a little bit more festiveness to it.

If, for some reason, you can't maintain the big routines in a day, give your child plenty of notice of the changes so that they can process those changes and anticipate them.

I am fortunate that my family lives close by and so can go home easily if I need to. Also they are all happy to separate, nap etc so it isn't a big deal if I do the same so loops, headphones tablet etc go with me. I even do simple things like take my own drink bottle with me (prefer to drink water out of that than a cup).
Also because of the closeness I get to still do my thing until it is time to go there for the meal and present exchange.
