DJI Air 2s vs DJI Mini 2 - Is the MINI 2 better??

Objectively the DJI Air 2s have better image quality. there is no doubt about that. But is the Air 2s worth twice the price of the Mini 2? That's what this video is about and it is surprising that the Mini 2 footage actually isn't far behind at all. Overall the DJI Air 2s does have better image quality, dynamic range and low light performance sure, but the 4k footage of the Mini 2 is incredible and on most devices you would not be able to tell the difference.

I use a ND8 polarizer on my mini 2...i really like how it gets detail from the sun. That more than anything made my footage improve. That and a slight colour grade.

Bought the Mini 2 a couple o weeks ago, upgraded from Phantom 3 Adv. I am impressed, i actually fligh my drone now, since it is so compact! video and photo quality amazing, for what i am using it for it is perfect!

I started with a Mini 2 not all that long ago, and have enjoyed it very much as my learning platform. However, I immediately wanted a better camera, with support for LOG, “cine-like” and/or other profiles. The Mini 2 does not offer that (yet?), so when the Air 2s came out I jumped on it immediately — like on the day it was formally released to the public. I have not regretted it for a moment. The Mini 2 is a very fine drone but the Air 2s definitely shows it up in a number of ways (as it *should*, for the price!).

I’d like to add that the Air 2s “Fly More” combo’s bag is surprisingly only incrementally larger than the Mini 2’s bag, though it is definitely heavier. Do I notice? Not really. I readily throw the Air 2s over my shoulder on walks, just like with the Mini 2. Also, the Air2s “Fly More” combo *includes* ND filters, which is awesome!

As said, and as demonstrated in the video it comes down to your needs (and desires), really.

Great stuff. I own the Mini 2 and Air2s and since I am from the US I can just register the heavier drone for 5 dollars US and as long as I am just flying for hobby reasons and not using it to make money I can fly pretty much wherever I am allowed.(following all FAA rules) I am working toward the FAA part 107 certification which will open up the ability to make money with my drones legally. I have the Mini and first gen Air as well and I still fly and use both. The Mini's camera even at 2.7k still looks better that some of my other drone brands I have shooting at 4k. One thing worth mentioning is that on the Air2s if you are shooting in 5.4k you will want to make sure your computer has the horsepower to process it. 5.4k will only use h.265 encoding and if your computer is a little older it will have issues playing the raw video so that it can be edited. I had to re-encode my 5.4k stuff down to h.264 - 4k 30 for it to even be playable on my system. The same goes for the 4k 60 setting. Encoding is set to h.265 and is not changeable on the drone camera settings. Yea it bit me the butt.

I have a mini 2 for all the reasons that you listed. cost was not a factor but the weight regulation was the biggest thing. one of the main places i fly has a 60m height restriction on the mini 2 and no drones over 250g can fly there. we were denied permission to fly a phantom. i did alot of research and came to the conclusion that the mini 2 had no real competition. the best in all categories for its weight class.

I can definitely see your point, my son has the mini 2S and I have the Air 2S. My preference for the air2 S was not only because I had a Mavic air previously, but the dynamics of its features and the exquisite 5.4K, 1” camera.
I do have a lot of love for the mini 2 yes, for it’s size it packs a punch too, both are amazing

When u were having trouble keeping up to the seadoo with the mini2 I've heard turning it into sport mode engages better when ur off the ground before flipping it outv normal

I’m a proud owner of a Mini 2 and this drone is a BEAST! It’s silent and so small people below don’t even notice. If I was to upgrade I’ll wait for the Mavic 3

Great comparison. I have the Mini 2. I love it and It suits my use. I can put the whole kit in the saddle bag on my motorbike or backpack and take it wherever I go. It's small size means If I'm in bush land or rugged terain I can easily hand launch and catch it without needing a landing site. The performance is amazing for such a small drone. I live in a windy area on the top of a hill and it has no trouble handling it. I get the occasional high wind warning but It has been great so far. No complaints on speed or range and I've regularly seen 50KMH plus on the display in sport mode. The Mini 2 4K footage looks great and as good or better than the GoPro I have on the bike or the phone camera I usually use. I have looked at and considered the Air2S but it's $2100 here in Australia for the fly more package which is more than double the $900 Mini 2 package. The extra performance would be nice but I just dont think I'd get as much use out of it as I do with the mini 2.
