Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is an action-adventure video game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The third instalment of the Banjo-Kazooie series, it was released for the Xbox 360 worldwide in November 2008. The game takes place eight years after the events of Banjo-Tooie, and marks the return of series antagonist Gruntilda, who plans to take over Spiral Mountain. In order to defeat Gruntilda, series protagonists Banjo and Kazooie must compete in a set of vehicle-based challenges.

I grew up on the N64 and played/completed BOTH Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie 100% (Rusty Bucket and Grunty's Factory elicited screams of agony as a child). I have to agree completely with what you said. Mechanically, it's not Banjo. Sure, it's fun and it is a good idea that spurs creativity but Banjo Nuts & Bolts suffered what almost EVERY WESTERN DEVELOPED GAME seems to suffer from.

Whether It's Mass Effect, Fable, or Banjo Kazooie one thing that ALWAYS eludes western developers is that the mechanical composition of a game (Whether action platformer or Sci-fi space opera RPG) MUST REMAIN CONSISTENT ACROSS SEQUELS. Look at Nintendo's Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, or even Super Smash Bros! One thing Nintendo has done right all these years is maintain consistent mechanics across game titles. If you make a spin-off that's fine but if you do a sequel to a game make sure the plot coalesces with the prequel and the mechanics are CONSISTENT with a few additional tweaks to make it a unique title.

As a note; I did play the hell out of the first two games back in the day, and loved them. So this comes from the perspective of someone who would have loved a more tradition Banjo three as well.

This is the most level headed and I think fair review I've seen of this game. I honestly picked this up thinking it was just a remastered version of the original, which apparently exists but only on Xbox Live (boo!), but once I started playing it, I thought it was great in its own right.

I think people are hung up on, "It shouldn't have been banjo kazooie", but no one says this about Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, and etc. Like those games, this one retains a lot of the "feeling" of the source material, albeit without the depth perhaps. The snarky, self deprecating humor; the remixed soundtrack; and the graphical design all feel reminiscent of Rare games in their prime (albeit now a shell of Microsoft).

I think you nailed it on the head when you said there should have been a banjo three and this as well. That said, I think if the people who trashed this took it for what it is, and not what it isn't; they would actually enjoy it.

I do believe that although it is not like its prequel and previous games in the series, it is a good game on its own right. I believe that if it was not in the Banjo Kazooie series, it would get a much better review since the reason it is not considered a great game is because it is not like the rest in its series. I believe it would have made a GREAT standalone game and I am definitely looking forward to Yooka Laylee

I'm looking at you, Rare. Make another vehicle game. This game was so well made for it's time, and it didn't take itself way too seriously. Always comedy here and there. It is amazing.

I have never played the other games of banjo kazooie but this game is my all time favourite. Has been since I think either last year or 2 years ago when I got it..

i was literally expecting a 3d platformer sequel when i picked this up. you can imagine my disappointment. the cars, its so bad

I think it provides a great story and cause for everything, with none of them being a major part of my childhood but actually having played the games, it might not suit the characters to be driving a vehicle but it does to join in a big collectathon out of spite

I understand this is an old video but, I will say this.... When i played Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts i did really love the game and it was one of my most favourite games from my past, i still have it in 2 editions (Original Xbox 360 Version and Rare Replay for Xbox One) But i will say a couple of years had past since then... and i will say when playing Yooka Laylee it made me think... i want to play the Originals i want to play Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, i haven't got round to it yet but some day i will, i was honestly excited for Yooka Laylee just because of playing Nuts and Bolts, even though the games are VERY Different, i love the video and thanks for your opinion :D

This bad sequel reminds me of conker's sequel ( not the remake) that would been released already if Microsoft didn't purchase Rareware. Even though they were developing the sequel after that, it was sadly Cancelled.

It should not have been a banjo kazooie game. It should have had new characters of a new titled game. It was good, it just isn't banjo kazooie.
