“Yes! Why not?” I keep saying these words while watching RK videos. He is the best “figure outer” on YouTube. Brilliant.

I bought a framing square at Walmart for just a few bucks and used it as a constant reference on an old bench I had. I laid it on the front corner and marked out its profile, then used a router bit to grind out the material until the square fit perfectly flush with the work surface and used flat head countersink screws to hold it in place. It gave me a square corner, a straight edge, and a constant 16" and 24" ruler available at all times so I didnt need to continuously retrieve my measuring tape. It was an invaluable addition to the bench

Love the outtake at the end. Thanks for finding workable tools as prices reasonable to beginners.

Just a follow up, I ordered one, paid the very silly low price. It actually showed up. It’s very square, dare I say as good as my large drafting square. Good value. I’ll be doing the wood inserts like Rex did

Love your cheap tools videos. They are what got me watching your channel.

I bought two of these 20 years ago and they have been in constant use and are still in perfect shape.
Also no rough edges whatsoever.

I watched this video when it was first published then a few days ago I was rummaging through my late father's old toolbox and found one of these exact same squares which puts it at least 15 years old maybe more, I tested it with a digital angle finder and it is surprisingly still pretty good, which puts this cheap square as damn good value. good video.

I bought a "Starrett" square from Amazon-it was about £8 and believed that I was going to get a tiny-maybe 6" long one but it turned up a few weeks later and was in fact 16" long-I must try to read the ad's through properly! Anyway, it was "Made In Brazil- not China for a change and to be honest I had zero expectations and was almost resigned to cutting off the side bit and just using it for a Rule/Straight edge but imagine my surprise when I tested it using the same method that you showed and discovered that it was absolutely bang on PERFECT!
-I kept testing it but had the same result every time.
Check it out: Starrett K53M-350-S still available on Amazon for around $10--$12! You will NOT be disappointed.

Rex, I really enjoy your videos. I'm a retired science educator and disabled in pain for 14 years. But only the first 24 hours per day. To cope I took up light wood woodworking to make toys and turn icecicles Christmas ornaments, and mostly make toys for my 5 grandsons, like wooden robots and assorted puzzles and anything I like on pinterest. I particularly like your takes on hand planes an super cheap tools that work or could be modified to work. I do have an extensive tool collection mainly because my father once told me that if you have a good supply of tools you'd never be without a job. I just like the coping benefits now and have no intentions to sell my crosses or spinning tops in a box. I give them to family or have orders from family that will last forever. I thank you for all your great tool insights though your fantastic.

I bought a square, almost exactly the same, from the $1 bin at my local independent hardware store (remember them?) back in '93 and it's been in constant use ever since.

Mine has "CHINA" emblazoned on the stock which is better finished than yours.

Maybe you'll be using yours in twenty five years as well. :)

I have one of these. I got it expecting to have to true it up yet it was square on arrival. If it ever goes out of true it'll be easy enough to take a file or some wet a dry to the casting and fix it.

Rex Krueger  It's tough when all you see online are people using and being sponsored by Woodpeckers. It can be easy to buy into the hype that you can only do quality work with those tools. Great video!

I have an old Starrett combination square and two dividers with amazing dark gray patina on them that good old clean tools get. I got them from a particular old feller that has been at the same flee market for more than a few years. I have bought an item from him almost every visit once or twice a year.

I actually use the magnetic Bora combination square for most projects. I knew the magnet thing is a gimmick but it was on Stumpy Nubs. I tried it and it is very well made and feels good in hand.

Love the way you are helping people get into woodworking! I would also suggest looking at estate sales for good deals on tools, most of my squares were gotten for pretty cheap that way.

Excellent buy! Don't forget to check the inside of the sqare as well since Chinese die cuts may not be completely square. I've also gotten to like some of the plastic (and cheap) Speed Squares. Empire seems to be good and a few others. Check one and see how it is and then, if it is good, any others should be good as well since they are injection molded and no hand done is required. Great for tough and abusive use (like farm/ranch/construction) where you might not want to use the decent Swanson's in your shop. If the $5 plastic gets torn up its no big deal. Note: Always check the new ones, if they came from a different mold, they might be out of square. All my Empires from Lowes have been good though. Nice mod on the square by the way.

I just bought it. May be a buck more with an increase of price and shipping but it's worth it for such an inexpensive tool!

Cheap, easy, and square... There's a prom date joke in there, if we all put our heads together...

Ordered this just now, out of curiosity than anything else. Waiting to see the product in the flesh, and will then revert with observations.
