Fun fact: the mirror thing is actually because your brain gets bored with what has been in the mirror for so long. It distorts things and as someone who had tested this for myself, I know that it sometimes can distort much more than your face and it is quite the generic horror movie spectacle.

I have a theory about the seeing things in the pitch black thing. I'm not entirely sure, but i think why people sometimes see things in pitch black is because their brain is sorta confused by the lack of light. As you may know, you can only see things if light is reflected off it, so in pitch black there is literally nothing to see, which in a way tricks the brain into thinking there's something blocking the way. Therefore, you start thinking there's movement despite there being nothing. Happens to me all the time tbh
