I met Richard Branson in a pub years ago after he stopped for directions. He played pool with me and my friends for a while and came across as a genuinely nice guy, offered us drinks (which we politely turned down and offered to buy him one) and after having a good laugh headed off.

Similar to Matt Foster I met Richard whilst interviewing for Unilever. Even managed to buy him a beer despite him offering to buy a round! Then met him on a Singapore airlines flight 20 years later (and whether he did or not) he said he remembered the beer! Nice and genuine guy👍

The description for this video mentions a “childish” letter from Trump. I believe Branson used the word “churlish” not “childish”, to summarize the missive he received from Trump, which means vulgar, rude, boorish, and mean spirited. Although “childish, ” which means appropriate to a child, silly, juvenile, and immature, seems to also be a fitting adjective.

He said the letter was CHURLISH, meaning: resembling, or characteristic of a churl : vulgar. 2 : marked by a lack of civility or graciousness : surly. Churlish has its origins in late Old English, but its modern-day meaning of “deliberately rude” developed in the 14th century. Churlish is a word Britians use frequently.

I actually met Rich in Costco by the tinned food aisle. He asked me where the detergent was and I pointed it out to him. I guess we kinda just hit it off and he invited me to fly out to his private island that weekend for his 60th birthday bash. After a few drinks at the party he confessed he was struggling to get the attendance high that's why he invited me although he genuinely liked me and he wasn't faking our friendship.

Richard Branson is a pretty good guy and actually one of my role models from a cultural and business professional standpoint, especially when it comes to dealing with people and managing them

Rule of thumb. 100% believe anyone who can’t/won’t look you in the eyes when telling a story.

I like how he handled this pretty neutral. Whether someone loves Trump or hates him, just play the neutral game. People are afraid of the alliance but to throw wood on the fire and trash him totally is unprofessional too. Really love how Branson handled this kind of playing Switzerland.

Here's the letter -

"Dear Richard,

Now that I have watched your show, I wish you came to me and asked my advice – I would have told you not to bother.

You have no television persona and, as I found out with others a long time ago, if it’s not there there’s not a thing in the world you can do about it. At least your dismal ratings can now allow you to concentrate on your airline which, I am sure, needs every ounce of your energy.

It is obviously a terrible business and I can’t imagine, with fuel prices etc., that you can be doing any better in it than anyone else.

Like television, you should try to get out the airline business too, as soon as possible!

Actually, I wonder out loud how you can be anywhere close to a billionaire and be in that business.

Perhaps the title of your show, The Rebel Billionaire, is misleading?

In any event, do not use me to promote your rapidly sinking show – you are a big boy, try doing it yourself!

Sincerely,

Donald J. Trump"

Wait, he had one dinner with DJT 3 decades ago and he feels the need to write about it in a book? Really?
