That is the absolute best way to hook baitfish! I do the same thing Snook fishing w/pinfish.

Not only for the reason stated, but even bigger is that hooking behind the dorsal gives you better control of him. For instance, when he swims into heavy cover you can pull him out and he will naturally pull away from you and back into the cover, usually in another spot. And so on! You can work an entire bank this way until he swims into they the wrong spot, and he gets nailed!

Also, next time, buy green bobbers! For some reason Gators are attracted to red. They will chase a red bobber all over a pond!

I was camping while watching this vid but there are two ponds across the road and my sister had one on there so big that it broke her hook and there is a massive catfish over there in the big pond but massive bass in the small one

Fish with red worms massive bluegill just go crazy for a tiny peace of red worm on a small hook and a bobber

Hook them at the top basically at the bluegills widest point. This gives the hook the most access but at the same time gives you the chance to set the hook before the hook gets in the throat of the bass. Obviously, you want to avoid that. Don't wait too long to set the hook (tops 4 seconds for big bluegills. Less for smaller). Occasionally throat hooks happens anyways and if so I just cut my line. I think the digestion system of the bass will get rid of the hook safely over time.
