It started out so well but the LED staying on was the first signs of trouble. Misleading selling. A great video Lewis.

Howdy Lewis. I guess the clue should have been in the instruction book - if properly protected and for use ‘submerged’ (for XXX minutes) then instructions/spec would have likely stayed it was IP68 rated. As it is, it is probably IP54 or IP55. Happy maritime mobileering!

Hi Lewis, top marks for doing the "full" test! It will be interesting to see just how well the radio dries out; most water damage comes from contaminates in the actual water causing shorts on microprocessors and those rubber backed keypads. But that screen... looks like a total fail there... BUT you never know :)

Well, you gave it the full Monty with the submersible test ;-) ... my guess would be that it would do ok in a rain shower or even a quick drop ( and retrieve ) in the local river? ... just wondering.... do you have to sign /w when used under water? :-) Thanks for the tests 73

That lasted a lot longer than I thought it would? of all the tests I think it passed this one is the best! not sure some other radios would last that long so it does at least show it can survive maybe a drop in a toilet or a deep puddle.

The radio however is crippled by poor performance and the battery drain issue, it needs a version 2, as the form factor, charger and software I really like, I still dont know who actually makes this radio as its badged by many different people, I wouldnt even be sure that Zastone are aware their name is even on this radio? its not on their website and there is quite a history for fake re branding of products in this way in the PRC, there is likely nothing Zastone could do even if they knew.

Good video though Lewis, for such a bad radio it certainly seems quite popular if video views are anything to go by?

Nice one, Lewis. Shame they couldn't have gone that short distance more and added a bit more resilience to keep the water out of the back where it clearly got in.
Good to talk to you earlier too - Mick M6ODZ

That was very interesting. Very misleading though to say its submersible, The truth exposed by Lewis

I opened up this radio and there is a thin and very flimsy rubber gasket on the metal chassis of the radio.

take the rubber gasket out from the antenna, stick a better antenna on and dont put the radio under water. :)

They should rename it the Disastone... Hopefully it might redeem itself when it's fully dried out

Lewis. I think you proved what we all thought. I’m upset this radio is such a flop. I bought it as an everyday carry radio and due the terrible battery problem and the fact it’s not waterproof, it’s not fit for my purpose. Thanks for the test. Regards... your ‘fan boy ‘ James. 😉

Strangely amusing video, this.. :D It's a bit of a shame though! I really quite like the formfactor and functions on this radio, but button layouts and things, but it seems like a very flawed product otherwise. I guess you just have to dish out for the Yaesu if you want this particular style of radio.
