If you want to be sure you can locate your Android smartphone if you lose it or someone steals it, then Norton Mobile Security Lite is worth considering.

Norton have been around for years of course, anyone who's ever used a desktop computer is likely to have installed one of their packages at some time or another.

This latest offering, which is free from the Google Play Store, allows you to scan your device for malware and viruses. It will autoscan for new downloads and app dates as well, making this something that you can run in the background without having to make the effort to keep updating.

If you're unlucky and lose your device, then you can use remote locate to find it on a map, which is probably one of the features everyone hopes they'll never need to use.

On a more regular basis you could be targeted by malware and viruses and Norton will scan and remove apps if it looks as though they're going to slow down your device, as well as harm it. SD cards are also scanned for threats.

If you want more whizzy features than the Lite version, then you can upgrade to the full version which allows you to wipe your smartphone if it's stolen or remotely lock it. It also allows you to back up your contacts so they can be restored when you get your phone back.

It will also block nuisance calls and SMS messages as well as send a scream alarm to help locate the device if you mislay it.
