I had forgotten Jay Novacek started in St. Louis. I believe Monk’s injury kept him out until the Super Bowl, which allowed eventual QB Doug Williams to gain a rapport with Ricky Sanders. Sanders caught two long TD’s in the Super Bowl and set a new record for receiving yards broken the following year by Jerry Rice.

The Cardinals were a talented team in a powerhouse If the played in the Central division they would have been a division winner most of the 80's and even if they were in the West they would be in the playoff hunt every year....

The Saint Louis Cardinals were like the Washing Generals, the team that always lost to the Globetrotters. As a teen, it seems every time they played they looked promising but lost. Every time.

The Cardinals actually weren't that bad that year. They actually had to go to Dallas and if they won, they would've gotten a wildcard spot. The Cardinals lost in the very next season they would be in Arizona. Even in this game, the St. Louis fans didn't care for this football team.
