When you donate to Kiva you have to know where your money goes. When you donate to a particular person, the money does not go to that person directly, instead it goes to a money lender who then passes it on to that person and charges them interest, usually at very high rates. In the Philippines the Kiva lenders charge as much as 40% per annum to the people who borrow the money. Of course you don't get that interest, only the loan shark in the middle gets that interest.
