Surprisingly anti-consumer practice from Valve - battery should be secured to the frame with torx screws for easier replacement, like for example batteries in HP elitebook G3's, not glued with the strongest adhesive known to man. There's plenty of space inside the steamdeck for 3 mounting points for the battery, that's enough to secure it tightly enough to not risk any mechanical damage.

How long is Valve and iFixit going to sell batteries for these things? I really like my regular lcd one that is modded with 32GB of ram and a 2TB ssd and my stock oled both in killswitch cases. I remember when cell phones had removable batteries and HTC oem extended batteries with slightly thicker rear covers. Those were generally only available for a year or two and then it was only knockoffs for every one of my htc wizard, hermes, kaiser, and rhodium.

Always check if the battery works before totally covering any electronics back again. This will save you headaches when doing repairs same as this.

Isn't it easier to simply remove interconnect cable in the beginning and then reinstalling it last? Why bother taping it mid-way?

i'm really disappointed with the parts availability from valve and ifixit. i can't buy an audio board for any of the four major revisions of this device. mine (a 1st gen) has been sitting in the closet ever since that board died because i bought the device expecting to be able to purchase parts and repair it myself. what a shame.

also, boo to valve for mounting the power button directly to the motherboard. replacing that was a massive pain and i didn't even want to use the device after since it had no audio. they really tried to sell this as a PC but it really is just a fancy nintendo switch running arch.
