I was once in a toxic relationship, where my ex was emotionally abusive and would talk about her cuts, and self harm. In the song, there were two vocals, one high and one low, the higher toned may be a mask for the abuser, making as though he's the good guy, but going further into the song, the "mask" voice slowly disappears (or well, fades out) symbolising that the abuser is revealing their true appearance. But I don't know, I might be overthinking, sorry for the weird English, not my mother tongue

Man, this song hits home when you're slowly learning to understand you're an abuse victim who's abuser manipulated and taught you you were the abuser. It's all confusing, it hurts. When we saw Oleander we knew it was right. It wasn’t until I was getting ready one morning when this song turned on and I freaked out. This is official his theme song.
