Starfield lockpicking is explained in this starfield digipick guide. I will show you how to use a digipick in starfield without getting frustrated so that you can open locks easily. The digipick is starfield's most confusing element and nobody knows how to open locks easily so this guide will help you out and remove any frustrations you may have had.

He first should have explained that anytime it turns blue, that means it fits in there somehow. If it's white that means it doesn't fit. Then you can choose from everything that is blue instead of going through every combination individually.

The fact no one ever mentioned you can click the lock options on the right side to change them is the sole reason why no one knows how to lockpick in starfield, this info is not known to anyone but you! This has saved me over hundreds of lockpicks.

I still don’t get it, even on advanced locks, I’ll go through two puzzles, and then sometimes there will just be a puzzle with only one hole and I never had that option on the right??

Blue means it fits in that ring (that is blue) and so you immediately narrow down your choices. Also, if a pick will fit in the outermost but not in the lower, then that's one of the ones you want to use for that outer. I find that you should plan to solve each ring with two picks, so if there's 7 holes, you're looking for a 4 and a 3, don't bother trying to fit in a 2, another 2, another 2, a 1. If none of your picks are lighting up the inner rings, then you probably messed up your outer rings, so you need to back that out and try again.

I despise these kinds of mini games, they're just a lazy means of padding the game. So, like Cyberpunk's hacking, I'll just ignore them until there's a mod that bypasses it.

Good game. This lock picking mini game sucks donkey ass though.
If you're just starting out the game, don't bother, highly likely you won't have the right shaped lock picks to complete a lock and just waste them.

Ok so at lvl 2 you get the ability to differ blue and white

The only tip and sure method is look at each pick and inner if it shows the pick you need is blue it's good but also se if the inner rings are blue, that means it will also work on inner rings so don't waste, use first the ones that are blue for that layer and not the further ones in, and from that you can go through it no problem.

Again save rings that are blue for every circle as it means it will work every layer and use the ones that are blue for that layer and not more further in

There are sometimes multiple but don't worry it just means you have more omi picks

I almost felt that I understood some parts of your explanation, or at least came close. I might have another go at picking an easy lock this evening and re-watch your tutorial as I do it.
At the moment I find lockpicking absolutely incomprehensible, none of it makes sense to me. I have zero understanding of what to do, and my methods so far just involve spamming the Undo key until I get something that fits.
Watched dozens of tutorials, and not even one explains it properly besides yours. Might need to watch it a few times to get it to sink in, but at least I have hope now, so thank you.

Thanks for the video, I was just getting lucky, I had no idea what I was doing. Once I got a couple and realized the loot wasn't worth the effort, I just ignore them now. I don't like wasting time for a bit of ammo or some random aid item. So far, anything I got from the lockboxes I could get anywhere. They just aren't worth the effort.

Every ring layer takes only two keys to unlock, even at master level

i'm getting locks that will finish with a 1 pinhole final circle but i have no 1 pin digipicks... is the game just glitched in that sense?

This explains how my gmail was hacked.

Even when you do get it. It should not take 3 or 4 minutes just to open a door or lockbox in a game full of fucking locks. Previous games did it better.

My guide... Unless you are OCD and the thought of leaving ANYTHING behind drives you insane....
Just invest in lockpicking perk points. Of course by then you will be swimming in credits and most things locked are just dead weight.
Bottom line. To many other things to spend time on than to come to a dead HALT solving puzzles....

They shoulda just added a device you could buy from the crimson guys for 10k that automatically cracks locks, or something to where if you pick lock 20 master pick locks your character learns how to break them automatically with a 50% chance of being successful or you waste a digi pick

It's just too tedious. If there were rare doors/containers/etc. that required this to open, that'd make more sense. But to require this minigame for every lock that the player wants to pick is a bit ridiculous.

I hate this lockpicking system if there's a mod that changes it in the future that's the first thing im doing 😂
