Let me start by saying that if you hated or were disappointed by Shenmue III, I understand. It's no secret that I'm a huge Shenmue fan and those first 2 games shaped part of my childhood and my interests. Before III came out, I replayed both games and it confirmed what I remembered: amazing atmosphere, very immersive and zen, fun battle system, intriguing main story with a lot of padding and tons of waiting around. There's nothing like Shenmue and while it has its negatives, I mainly feel nostalgia and positive thoughts when I think back on the series. This brings me to Shenmue III: the immersive zen experience still felt absolutely there and the attention to details in all the locals was amazing (loved hunting for Chobun-Chans!), in addition to the expansive soundtrack. Two things were however obvious: the limited budget which probably caused the huge downgrade in the battle system and Yu Suzuki being out of touch with modern gaming. The main story and how little it advanced was greatly disappointing. Yet somehow, through playing a game that often felt mundane, I found myself wanting to stay patient and appreciate the opportunity to be in this world again, even creating my own little training routine. The small kid in me who would dream of visiting Japan and China is still in there. I'm glad Shenmue III exists.

I still wear my Shenmue 3 backer shirt with pride and look forward to the day Shenmue 4 will arrive. I got into the series a year before 3 was announced so I can wait just as long as the original fans can!

Well said. It's nice to see someone describe their thoughts in a calm intelligent matter instead of immediately putting this game down as rubbish just because it lacks in certain areas.

I hope Shenmue 4 gets made ❤! Shenmue 3 had its issues but it had its charms as well.
