As an advice for the plastic welding: glue the pieces first and then weld them. The superglue will hold the parts together even stronger.

If I could suggest u some type of fur fabric u might go for minky fabric is fake fur fabric but it's super short u don't have to shave it at all and nice and soft! I hope this helps u out :)
