🌎 *About Us:*
We’re Ben & MP, a couple sailing the world (or trying to) on Yabá, our 80+ ft wooden schooner with our two dogs. But this wasn’t always our life.
In 2020, we found Yabá abandoned, sinking, and on the verge of being lost forever. We had no experience in boatbuilding, only a wild dream and the determination to make it happen. We worked relentlessly, learning from the best local shipwrights and pouring everything we had into this rebuild. It took four years of sweat, setbacks, and unwavering commitment, but today, Yabá is more than just a boat, she’s our home, our biggest adventure, and the proof that crazy dreams *can* come true.

Now, we’re sailing into the unknown, exploring remote islands, embracing the unpredictable and sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Join us as we chase the horizon!

This is a vlog with a lot of different topics but Personally I like the best to see Yabá with her sails in top

Crazy idea: When using tools where you can drop them in the water, tie a little bouy so you can find them on the bottom. Or just tie them to your arm.

A couple of tips. When working over water hang an umbrella underneath to catch any bits you drop. Also with WD40 be careful using it with some plastics as it can cause it to swell. A friend used it to lube rudder bearings, needed a sledge hammer to get the rudder out!

Yet another one of those lovely narrated intros by MP. What a YT rockstar. Then some final victory clips of those beautifully furling staysails at the end. In the middle "I can't keep up!" LOL. I can barely bend over to tie my shoes these days so flying along in tropical waters pulled by a kite looks magical to this old man. Thanks for sharing your lives in the wonderful generous way you do. Much gratitude and admiration from NH, USA.

Warm water is a good place to start with parts exposed to salt water, helps dissolve the salt and wash it away. In theory you don't even need to disassemble the furler, just pour warm water down it and rotate back and forth, do that a few times a year and it might be all you need to do. If that isn't enough, then you can use a cleaner and a bit of lube if needed. That has been my experience anyway. Great to see you two out sailing and enjoying the fruits of your labour.

wd 40 is fine as penetrating oil and for cleaning, but you should have greased the furlers with some Harken or Liqui Moly winch grease or Liqui Moly Marine grease. It would protect against corrosion and keep the furlers working much longer. Maybe you can grease them without dissasembly. You really should do this before new corrosion sets in.

Fun facts to forget, "WD-40" stands for "Water Displacement formula #40". It was the 40th formulation or recipe that was finally successful and met the requirements from the one who commissioned its design..
It was originally designed under contract with NASA to come up with some way to easily protect metal from corrosion by keeping moisture away from the surface of components that may not have had their surface treatment of whatever kind is used for the specific metal completed yet.
It's not really a lubricant and it will actually dry out but that's part of it's design in that even after it has dried, it's water displacement properties continue.
With duct tape, electrician's tape, super glue and WD-40, one can fix almost anything but, the question then becomes, should one?
Most people use it to free rusted bolts or the like but there are much better products that are actually designed for that. The majority of use that Wd-40 gets used for is "off-label".

Your entertaining videos over the past years lead me to feeling like a proud parent seeing his kids launch forward into their dreams. You guys are great. Thanks for maintaining your fun channel. Those old guys like me live vicariously through your adventure.

Nice job. A lick of paint on each of them as they go back up would not have gone astray but having all that rigging working like a well oiled machine will make your travels and a sense of self satisfaction so much enjoyable.

Maintenance never
The paddle board stored beside the winch, when doing maintenance on the bowsprit, could you place the paddle board on the netting to act as a temporary walkway?
Or possibly, a long skinny designated board that is stowed away until needed and when required, can be placed on the netting to act as a lopsided walkway in conjunction with the bowsprit?

Love your videos
Keep up the great work
