To say he mopped the floor with my soul would be an understatement. I had seen him play before and he was great, but I didn't expect the endless barrage of 90mph forehand winners pinpoint in the corner. Excellent display here by Ryan and all the best at Virginia Tech next year!

Final Score: 6-0 6-1

Am I the only one who loves the sound of that forehand?

few things:
1. that court/club was beautiful, such a peaceful place to play;
2. too many short shots falling in midcourt for him to attack, but I get that's easier said than done when you're on the defensive right away;
3. can you start getting the racket, string pattern, tension, and strings for each opponent? For us tennis nerds it's always cool hearing others set ups.

His playstyle definitely fun to watch. Always a good experience to play with different people, glad you recorded it.

This is the only gameplay I’ve seen so far on YouTube that their gameplay accurately matches their ranking. Great video!

If he is playing 5.0 I bet he doesn't lose hardly any matches! EXTREMELY solid player! Thanks for posting this match Andrew!

He was a very strong 5.0 player. Great consistency, power and he had a lot of work on the ball from all the spin he generated. Brave of you to post the video.

Footwork and timing on the rise forehand is insane from black shirt. When the ball is sitting he's gonna make it hurt.

Props for posting the video. I also saw the live stream. The highlights here really show the kids tennis cred. He's immediately on the attack making it hard to get a breath.

Andrew, good video but watch it again yourself and see what Ryan does: 1. Recovers to left of centre to favour his forehand (per comment below : why Ryan hits so few backhands). 2. Try and play closer to the baseline. (aka when you are serving you are naturally more in the court). 3. Walk in and split step as he serves. Currently you stand flat footed. There is nothing wrong with your shots / speed / stamina / control etc. Just where you position/ play. A coach said to me once ' Remember a game of tennis is really a game of forcings back - you want to push the other player back behind the baseline so you can control the point and come to the net for a volley.' I only say this because we all want your soul to be revived! :-)

I've been watching this video at least once every single day since it came out. Black shirt's forehand is freaking insane! I'm learning a lot just by watching him swing the racquet. Not that your forehand is bad or anything. In fact, I've been imitating your forehand since last year because it feels so nice and consistent when rallying with someone, but when it comes to someone who can hit winners frequently, I get destroyed. Now that I've been playing for a quite a while now, I feel that I'm ready to start accelerating the speed of my forehand and also flick my wrist similar to Black shirt.

Anyways, I hope that you continue to improve on your game so that we can see more interesting matches like this one! Good luck!

After watching this a second time over, this makes me realize that different styles of play work better on different people. While me or most of everyone here cannot beat Andrew and his amazing athleticism and defense, some of us can hit a harder shot with pace or just a super flat shot. This guy has shown that he can tee off on any floater or ball slow enough if he's given enough time. If he played someone that was less athletic than Andrew, but played someone who could hit faster pace shots, he might not have had the opportunity to hit that many devastating forehands and you'd start seeing errors. But who really knows. For all we know that guy can prolly tee off on anything you give him.

Not fair having Stan Wawrinka playing 5.0 league

Beautiful serve and forehand with the black t shirt guy - strikes it really really sweetly .Green t shirt guy is good too a nightmare to play I reckon if you don't have a monster forehand like this guy had - seemed to played in a really friendly and sporting manner too as well as being a competitive match - well done to both lads good video .

Ryan is a beast with the groundies. Heavy shots of that forehand wing. Great play by both. Ryan simply has a bit more firepower, so on his serve he can hold easy, and if he can neutralize your serve and reset the point with his return-he has the edge. He's a tough out for sure.

He loved playing you!
you have to have a weapon at that level, keeping the ball in is not going to cut it... the more you keep the ball in the more consistent "grooved" he gets and it's over!!

Just interesting to see you can say "he mopped the floor with my soul" in English too. Because in Chinese, there is an almost exactly same sentence that expresses exactly same meaning:))
