I always remember years ago when Warfame launched pets and an error in the drop tables made one of the dog types functionally impossible to farm for some players. This went on for months until the prominent community data miner discovered there were 2 contradicting drop tables causing a zero drop chance. Who knows how many players resorted to using cash to get their doggo because of a bug.

The Warframe devs are largely honest, although their lawyers did take the data miners behind the shed years ago, but many companies would rob us blind at the first chance. Data mining is a big tool to both keep them honest and to catch the occasional honest mistake.

Datamining is how we found out the Destiny's first expansion was actually already on the install disc but then got locked out.

There are also different ways of data mining not just one method, the problem is the people who use using it for their personal benefits

Honestly, I dont mind datamines at all. I want to hear and see leaks. It gives me something to look forward too. If game devs were smart they would be more transparent about their plans so that datamines weren't necessary. For those who dont want spoilers, just do what has always been done to avoid spoilers. Dont click on anything related to them.

I personally do not mind data mining, especially in competetive games, where understanding the game mechanics and stat interaction is key, this is a good source of information. It also keeps Publishers on their toes not to put unneccassary bullshit onto my drive.
