I actually faced criminal charges back when I was 19 and I used the bottom end of a pool stick on a guy that was threatening my family with a machete and I had 6 months of probation

Defence — use or threat of force

34 (1) A person is not guilty of an offence if

(a) they believe on reasonable grounds that force is being used against them or another person or that a threat of force is being made against them or another person;

(b) the act that constitutes the offence is committed for the purpose of defending or protecting themselves or the other person from that use or threat of force; and

(c) the act committed is reasonable in the circumstances.

Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

And the criminal has more rights than the victim.

Wow. That lady is clearly very ignorant of the Canadian laws. Under s.34 of the Criminal Code a person is permitted to take reasonable action to protect themselves or others without being guilty of an offence.

You do have right to defend yourself Yes, under s. 34 and s. 35 of the Criminal Code, you are permitted to defend yourself or your property. However, you are only able to do so if your defensive actions are deemed reasonable under particular circumstances

That's nothing, in Spain, if someone enters your house and beats you up, if you beat him too, you go to jail aaaand... You have to pay him a compensation

Move to texas. Post no trespassing signs and in a situation you give 3 warnings that you're armed and will shoot, and make sure they are approaching or facing you. It helps if they're armed too.

I consider anyone who enters someone’s home without permission is a lethal threat at that point.
I would rather have my family need to visit me in jail than need to visit my loved ones in the hospital or cemetery, bottom line. It is immoral beyond reason to deny self defence to the general public by people who live in gated communities with an entourage of armed protectors surrounding them.
Our laws should inform the criminals that they do these actions of there own volition and must accept the risk and the fact that the law should always favour the victims of criminals in every instance. C’mon, it’s common sense and the criminals need clarification on whom any blame for their demise or injury is put on. Enough is enough, no need to justify their threat to society because of some condition or other. Regular folks need to come long long before criminals.

Don't even care what the law says regarding this!

The safety of my family and myself comes first!

Anyone who tries to put my life at risk will be buried!

not as simple as that... for assault to stick... your actions have to be "unprovoked."

If someone invades your home or causes a scene in your business... you are allowed to ask the person to leave... and if they refuse... you are allowed to use 'minimum' force to 'remove' them from your premises.

You can ban the person from your premises... and have 'them' charged with 'trespassing' if they return.

You need 'reasonable cause' to use force against an intruder or a belligerent (say on the street.)

You can't 'preemptively strike' someone because 'you thought they were going to attack you.'

If you are attacked... you can defend yourself... but the law requires you to only use enough force to 'free' yourself from the situation... so you can't beat the home invader to death or even badly hurt the guy if you're disproportionately larger and stronger than the criminal. You can do a citizen's arrest however... but you legally cannot undo an arrest after you make it... and you have to turn the guy over to police, who will then decide if there is enough evidence to lay charges. If you release the guy prematurely (before police arrive)... that is 'false arrest' and you can be fined and/ or charged with assault.

My law class said I’m aloud to hold them, defend myself if they’re in my house

This video should be flagged for telling an outright lie about Canadian law. We DO have the right to defend ourselves with equal force. An example would be if someone attacked you with a knife, you're allowed to fight back with a knife. It only becomes illegal if the attacker retreats and you pursue them because at that point they are no longer a threat.
