Imagine going to prison for life just for bringing enough of your prescription meds along to last your stay because they're considered contraband. North Korea is a place that I'll visit from the safety of my living room while watching someone else's courageous documentary.

I always figured that even in North Korea, Iran, or Afghanistan you could turn on a radio and hear "Come On Eileen".

The sad part is that if such dictatorships and complete isolation from the rest of the world happen over generations, the people inside the country, who were born into their isolated world, won't even know that life can be different. Regimes usually came and go and people have the desire for freedom or at least they despise their dictators. Revolutions exist at least in their heads. But many people in North Korea probably don't even realize what situation they are in, because they never had any references in their lifes to compare their situation. They probably won't even think that their situation is bad at all, as crazy as it sounds. If such dictatorships exist for too long, the danger increases dramatically that they will persist forever, unless an external force helps them.
