Les Misérables? more like Lesbian Miserable (Lesbians when they're pining for some girl)
Ah yes, the theme song for sapphic hopeless romantics everywhere.

I have never watched Les MIsérables. Do I plan to? Maybe. Depends on how long of an essay you can write in the comments about how good it is, Les Mis fans, this is your time to shine since you lot can never shut up about it (I'm looking at you, Ezra!!)

LYRICS:
On my own
Pretending she's beside me
All alone
I walk with her 'til morning
Without her, I feel her arms around me
And when I lose my way, I close my eyes and she has found me

In the rain
The pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is her and me forever and forever

And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to her
And although I know that she is blind
Still I say there's a way for us

I love her
But when the night is over
She is gone
The river's just a river
Without her, the world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere the streets are full of strangers

I love her
But every day I'm learning
All my life I've only been pretending
Without me, her world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness that I have never known

I love her
I love her
I love her
But only on my own

This gives the song a whole new meaning, she can't be with her because people wouldn't accept her. And of her daydreaming of what a society without prejudice would be like

“I love her, but when the night is over” actually flows so much better…

Pour one out for every gay kid (including me) who listened to this song and cried growing up. this is brilliant. I wish I’d had this as a teen.

100% convinced you won’t see this, but I remember over 13 years ago. I used this song to audition for my schools show choir. The unspoken rule was that freshman were allowed to audition, but the director would never pass them. Said Freshman were too immature for his choir.

Around this time, I was just discovering myself. Figured out I was gay. And I had to hold it all in because of the ridicule and shame. But I’d just seen Les Mis (1998 movie) and I loved this song. So I sang it for my audition. I didn’t change the pronouns… and I nearly started crying while I sang it. Once I finished, I did cry. Like I let out every single emotion I was holding in with that song.

I actually made The Show Choir. I was one of two Freshman who made it out of 30 auditions.

I’m almost 28 years old now. And I definitely can’t sing like I used to when I was 14… but hearing this cover really brought me back to that moment. And now I’m just in my room crying happy tears. Happy I’m no longer in that situation. Soon to be married to a wonderful guy I love.

It’s a great cover. Thanks for making my day Reinaery.

Can anyone else imagine an alternate universe where Eponine sings this about Cosette?

The version where Eponine falls in love with Cosette, but Cosette still loves Marius.

"I've only been pretending" hits different

Am I the only one who thought Eponine could do like, a million times better than freaking *Marius* of all people?

**warning: maybe a couple of hinted spoilers for les miserables in this (I don't think I've spoiled anything tbh, I just dont want people mad at me) so read at own peril.**

You should totally watch it. Its such a good story and the songs are just elite. Though (as you can guess from the title and what other people may have said) it's quite sad and might make you cry. It's an interesting perspective in terms of people fighting for what they believe in even if it seems their lives have made no difference and the grief of those left behind thinking if it was worth it. It has some comedy included (a small amount, I would not watch it if I was in the mood for a comedy) and has a different ending than expected (**ok bit of a spoiler here but not too big**) as in it isn't that happy ending that usually comes (even though it isn't too depressing) and the characters are interesting and the plot line isn't boring and how you can almost taste the agony of it even though we'll most likely never understand. How it portrays such pain and grief spectacularly well, I just love it. Of course it isnt everybody cup of tea but I really enjoy it and hope u might too :).

God, when I was just a baby gay I would sing along to this song basically screaming my heart out. This brings me back. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who made that connection

At this point somebody really needs to make a playlist of all of Rainaeiry's song covers that are "but its gay." That'd be super convenient!

I haven’t even finished the song and I already know I’m going to cry.
