The Egyptian Calendar

It’s a new year. The perfect opportunity to talk about the Egyptian calendar. Please note, that I am going to be in Egypt for the first few weeks of January 2021 with an eye towards leading tours on the Bible and Egypt with Tutku Tours. As I will be overwhelmed while in Egypt, I will not be as attentive to video comments as I normally am.

Remarkable effort , the festival days also included Sopdet as a sixth day if it did not rise on the fifth day, all the best

Thank you so much. We still use this calendar in Agricultural Egypt and in Coptic Liturgy. First month is Called Tot ( presumably after Thoth the god of writing and wisdom).

Good video, learned a bit more about Egyptian mythology i didn't know
like 2 Horus' and Isis being the goddess of the dead- i always heard fertility.

there was a lot i did know though
but i didn't know Egypt was the first to develop a working calendar
i always presumed it was the Akkadians or summers

Quick question, Dr. Falk: Did the Egyptian day begin in the Morning, or the Evening? And what Lunar event caused the start of the Observational month? I would appreciate your response.

When was Horus the younger born? Plutarch places the birth at the time of winter solstice? When was the winter solstice for Egyptians in their calendar?

Thank you for the video. Very informative. Happy New Egyptian Year.

I have a question. What does the Egyptian calendar start with in terms of years. I’ve read it’s 6263 in Egyptian years but 6263 years since what ?is the question that popped in my mind. Perhaps the start of the calendar itself or something special?

Could you please give reference to the writing of the administrator on the issue of 'heat of Winter?'

I heard that we can’t date very well beyond 1000 bc, is this not true?
What I heard is we have to use lists of kings to get a rough date but it’s not as accurate as 1000 bc to current.
From what you explained in this video it seems we can!

Thank you. I'm trying to figure out why Dec. 25 was selected as the birthday of Christ. I figure it was influenced by the Egyptian calendar with the fifth day from the end being the beginning of celebration for the gods you mentioned.
