The "because we were the girls" activated some deep sitting rage within my heart. Grew up the same way, always questioned the unfair treatment, always got hit with the "because you're the girl"

As a woman from a south asian house, idk why but i relate to this. Makes me feel empty.

Parents like that raise useless sons and resentful hurt daughters

Growing up in an Indian run household, I also understand the "girls of the family" role.
Be slaves basically. My brother was and is a king to my mother.
I only have a little girl, and whilst I'm trying to teach her to be independent and helpful, I often wonder if I, too, am just burdening her because she is a girl.

I still remember when my little brother came to me with a bleeding finger and asked me what to do. I was 8 and he was 6. Still I washed the wound and cleaned it with antiseptic, bandaged it like I saw in an ad. The worst thing was my mom appreciated me instead of getting angry at us for not telling her. She said I was finally being the responsible girl in the family. Back then I thought it was a compliment and now I know better.

Your story is a reason why I make it a point to talk to all of my siblings about our childhood and let them know things that they did not necessarily know so that we don't carry resentments into our adulthood.

I hate it when people think household chores are just for the girls in the family 😞

Why do people have such pathological stories with their parents? If a child is afraid to talk about a cut, they must have been given a reason to do so... and besides, doing everything because you are a girl? Very sad.

I can totally relate. I once sliced my fingers when I fell down the stairs and didn’t want to tell my parents because I thought I’d get in trouble.

Being scared to tell your parents wasn't unreasonable during the time it happened. You prob got yelled at for accidents before and that cut, which led to you developing a fear to seek help.
Kids normally don't have a reason to keep from seeking help. Nothing should be there to stop them. Something was there to stop you though....
Quite depressing....hope it's the only wrong they did to ya.

The way your voice broke off in the

I resonated with that statement "because we were the girls", truly, patriarchy forces us girls to grow up too soon. I am glad to have come across your channel Lisa and I am sure your sister and Little Lisa would be proud of who you have become today❤

I have a story in front of my house a lady have 3 kids. 2, 3 and 5 by age. Yesterday the older boy was cycling and other 2 kids playing right beside suddenly the 5 year old lost balance and fell, other 2 got there and trying to help their big brother get up. The kid isn't crying yet. Suddenly their mother comes out of the house and just by the sight of her mother he starts crying, afraid . Her mother started to bad mouth her son and starts beating the hell out of him just because he FELL.
I mean how traumatized can you be that even the sight of your mother when u r hurt can bring fear and tears in your eyes instead of comfort.
Parenting of Indian household 😞.

Ugh…so relatable.
When I was 7 & my brother was 8 we had to help my 9 year old sister with dish washing. We both raced to grab a steak knife to rinse off. I won & sliced open my finger. I tried to hide it behind my back & trailed blood after me. And of course got a spanking & reprimand for “playing” & hiding my injury.
