Schmohawk - Schmohawk (2022, FULL ALBUM)
Показать описание
This album is basically a giant sound collage of field recordings. Most of these tracks were recorded for various other projects, and some parts contain multiple excerpts within one song.
"Premium Ride" was my attempt at making interesting sample-based music, and was released as a single at the beginning of 2022. I'm still proud of the synth sample that is overlayed on top of the base disco rhythm. "hi" was a field recording that I made while head-deep in this record's creation, similar to "blender 1."
"cobalt blue" and "someone asked" are sped up pieces of other songs from the album. I only really put them on the album 'cause I wanted it to be twenty songs.
"the big day" and "engine" are both weird recordings that ended up on here. "engine" sounds like something a drunk hippy would put on a cassette tape in the late 70s, which is probably why I enjoy it. "steamboats" is an excerpt from a track of the same name that was created for my planned-first album "Anyway, this is a Keyboard" that hasn't been released. "The Denial Suite" is a funny little medley that doesn't overstay it's welcome. Other than "no", it's all made up of the same pieces arranged in different ways.
"head" is, in my opinion, the most interesting song on this album. It features excerpts from the aforementioned A,TIAK as bookends, with a middle section consisting of a guitar track from years ago. It's manipulated to create a soundscape that is pretty cool. "superartificial hatemachine" is a song I wrote for a failed concept album that I still want to revisit, and "a race against nothing" is a reworked outtake from "Mystery Behind the Painting". "i don't stand tall" is a short excerpt of Brad playing keys over a drum track I had recorded. Also, fun fact, "blender 2" is literally a song from my EP "Searching for Minutes." I, like, barely even touched it.
"monkeys" and "aunt eggma blowtorch" are both live field recordings that are preformed on a Poole grand piano. I really enjoy the former, as it's an homage to avant-garde classical music AND NMH. Lastly, "flavorful gumbo karne" is a track from my first mixtape. It's mixed terribly, so be warned.
Overall, this album was fun to look back on. I hope that, eventually, I'll have nostalgia for it. I feel like it nicely ended the YouTube era of my music, which is something we should all celebrate.
