Thanks so much for posting this! I'm building a deck and was about to give up and just use brackets to install my knee bracing. This is just what I needed to see to figure out what I was doing wrong!

Thanks for the video documenting the destruction what the flooding caused on the coquihalla Hwy . Please continue the good work and be safe.

Could watch videos like this for hours. Thanks for putting it on!

Beautiful way to assemble that deck support. Must have required a little thought and effort to make that work. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work. Always interesting to see the solutions people come up with such as the jack and maple wedge. Must have been satisfying when the tenon popped in. I'd be interested to see more footage of the construction.

That's how engineers in the Ozark mountain take care of business! Nice solid work!

Beautiful craftsmanship going on here.

Looks great. I didn't think maple was good for outside use. I like the technique, I'd put glue on the wedge so the wedge & brace become one.

Sweet video. Short and informative with some fun at the end. Subscribed which bumped you to 1000

Guess what I am building? A pergola with mortise and tenon joints in the knee braces, a.k.a. “gussets”. I am lucky though, I will be assembling it on the ground and tipping it up, so no tight fits. Also using dowels to hold the tenon in place. Good to see your stuff back. I have seen anything in a long time.

great example of how to install a brace "post-facto"!

Those are absolutely my favorite skill saws. They don't makem like that anymore. I've accumulated at least 8.

Not to be that guy, but that's a brace, not a gusset. If you put a metal plate over the joint where the brace meets the post and bolted it to both, that would be a gusset. Good video, though.

I cut some braces and are kinda lose. You just gave me the idea of wedges, thanks

That is some impressive engineering. You should come and help us do some square set timbering in our mine!

Hmm....hearing all that cracking and snapping as you jacked up the gusset makes me wonder if more damage was done that it was worth to have a tight fitting brace??

Looks great. The vertical split on the vertical members. Are those post compromised?

What's a gusset? I know mortice and tennon, but not a gusset. Shouldn't the knee brace go in before the beam goes up?

lower hole was how much longer than upper one, how deep is? my beam was 14x14cm.
