I don't understand. Why is this even news? She was only deployed for six months. Is it because she has a kid?

I deployed to Afghanistan for 13 months. No camera crew waiting when I got home. I also didn't expect any attention because 13 months was nothing. Several of my sergeants had even been deployed for 22-24 months, or they extended their own deployment and stayed in country when the rest of us came home.

Nobody cared, because we were fighting two separate wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and it was normal for somebody to be gone for over a year.

Now we are making a big deal because a mom went somewhere for SIX months? She went longer without seeing her kid when she was pregnant with him.

Also, let's be REAL. Was she doing combat operations? Was she going on missions outside of the wire? Or was she a POG? There's nothing wrong with POGs, but a deployment as a MECHANIC is NOTHING like the deployment of a INFANTRYMAN or SCOUT or COMBAT ENGINEER.

Edit: I'm 100% positive that she was not involved in combat; they kept saying "the Middle East." She didn't go anywhere near combat.

This is a wholesome moment but no different from other families that have people get deployed and come back excited to see family again, so it doesn't make sense to be on the news.

With all the respect to the veterans and the people that still on the payroll It’s funny that when we come back home we make up videos about seeing our kids for the first time and they reaction but what we forgot about is those kids that we killed in Iraq and Afghanistan by accident and we didn’t give a damn my advice to all those soldiers that get discharged is this go back home and stop making videos and try to find your benefit through the VA Like VA loan medical attention Life insurance post 9-11 before it’s too late The only reason I wrote comment is because I don’t like hypocrites just be real
