Warning: this experiment produces large quantities of toxic chlorine gas and deals with both corrosives and powerful oxidizing agents , all glass apparatus must be able to withstand acids and high temperatures.
This experiment must be done outside or in a fumehood; in addition a gas mask might be necessary
Gloves and goggles are necessary.
I'm not responsible for anyone that harms himself trying to replicate this experiment.

In this video chlorine gas is made by adding concentrated hydrochloric acid to potassium permanganate, the permanganate ion will oxidize the chloride ion into elemental chlorine, with the following reaction:

2 KMnO4 + 8 HCl → 2 KCl + 2 MnO2 + 4 H2O + 6 Cl2

for approximatively 1,3 l of Cl2 3 grams of potassium permanganate and 10 ml of hydrochloric acid 30% sol are necessary.

the red mud that deposits over the walls of the glass container is iron(III)chloride

Thank you, I literally just read that Cl2 can support combustion and was looking for proof, can't wait to try this demo on my own.
